INTERVIEW: Ashlee Keating

Hi Ashlee, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been great, thank you!! Working super hard!!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “YASSS”?

Of course! It’s a fun pop/dance tune with an uptempo/upbeat sound, and focuses on feeling the best version of yourself. I co-wrote this song wanting my fans to feel uplifted, inspired, and happy after listening to it. It’s for sure a self empowerment song making listeners want to dance.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Honestly, I just say “YASSS” constantly! I was feeling some type of way feeling myself the day I went into the studio to write/record, hence the “I’m gonna flip my pony, okay bitch I slay” lyric. I kept saying “YASSS” while we were writing and I was like hey, why don’t we just call it “YASSS’?! It all happened organically. It was fun!

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

It was intense, but so much fun! I love making the song come alive with a story on camera! I don’t want to give too much away just yet about the video, but expect it to be high energy and fun!

How was the recording and writing process?

It was honestly hilarious and so much fun! We laughed a lot while coming up with the lyrics. I really wanted to make this song me and things I say on my Instagram rants lol. We wrote this song pretty fast! Like I said it all happened organic and naturally.

With the major reception your music has gained throughout your career – does this place any pressure on you as you work on a new material or rather the opposite?

Awe, thank you, appreciate it. Honestly, I try not to think about the pressure and just have fun because it’s what I love to do, but in reality yes. I’m a perfectionist and I’m always trying to be better and improve my sound, image, etc.

Having worked with some of the major names in the industry – what have you learned from these experiences?

I’ve learned sometimes we have many things in common and that they’re all incredibly talented and have a strong work ethic which I like to emulate as well.

What role does New Jersey still play in your music?

Haha, everythang!!! My sassy persona comes from my Italian South Jersey roots in my songwriting and music. Also, a lot of the music I grew up listening to in New Jersey plays a role as well, my pop/dance/urban roots.

How would you say your acting background actually influences your music and the other way around?

It really only influences my music when I’m playing a role for a movie or a tv show. I had played a leading role in an independent film and ended up having 5 songs on the soundtrack, which one of them I wrote specifically for my character and a specific scene. Also, I was playing a pop/country artist so I transformed myself into that and changed up my style a bit to fit the character best.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

“YASSS”!! Lol. Definitely new material on the way! I am currently diligently writing/recording my first EP in the studio and im so so excited about it! It’s coming along so great! I can’t wait for all my #Keators to hear it, I hope they love it!

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Summer 2020!! You’ll just have to wait and see! 😉 Stay tuned to announcements on my instagram!

Any plans to hit the road?

Definitely! Stay tuned for performance dates coming on my social media sites!

What else is happening next in Ashlee Keating’s world?

So many exciting things! Working super hard! Heading to Miami soon to do my debut performance of “YASSS” which I’m stoked about and some radio/press interviews. Also finishing up my EP and so much more!
