INTERVIEW: Jamie Lindsay Talks (And Premieres) New Single “Simple Life”

Hi Jamie, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been great, thanks. Busy as always working on my music and other artists’ music as well. And of course, I’m really excited about my new release!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Simple Life”?

Would love to! “Simple Life” for me is all about getting out of the concrete jungle of the city and getting back to a more simple life in the country. I grew up in the bush-lands of Launceston, Tasmania, and so this song is a real throwback to how those surroundings made me feel back then and how much I long for it now.

I recently moved out of Sydney up to the central coast of Australia, and it’s been the best move for me and my family. We are a lot happier, now that we don’t have to deal with the hustle and bustle of the big city.

The lyrics of “Simple Life” were written in my head while being stuck in traffic one day. I actually had to pull over and sing the idea into my phone so I wouldn’t forget it.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Yes, well. Not so much of an event, but I can tell you what inspired me to arrange the song the way that I did. Ya see, I’m a big Eagles fan and I’d recently bought a Greatest Hits record of theirs. There’s this live version in the album of their song “Seven Bridges Road” which showcases their amazing harmonies.

I wanted to do something like that for one of my songs. And so, when it came to record “Simple Life”, I decided to keep it a cappella.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes. The video comes out a week after the audio drops.

How was the recording process and writing process?

I might have already covered this in a previous answer, but maybe I can elaborate.

I have a home studio. So I record and produce everything myself. I did all the vocals for the track, and a friend of mine, Steve Adderley, and I did the foot stomps and claps in an empty room. Steve also helped me mix the track.

What role does Sydney play in your music?

I moved to Sydney in 2001, and I’ve worked my ass off playing around all the pubs and clubs. I’ve got a really good support network here, and there are some amazing musicians and other industry people that I rely on to make the wheels turn.

Sydney is home for me and my family. Well, the Central Coast, but it’s close enough!

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I have an 11 track album ready to go. So that’ll be coming out in a few months time. I’ve also written the next record and I’m currently tracking that now in my studio.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The album should be out in a few months.

Any plans to hit the road?

Absolutely! I’m keen to get out there and do some festivals. We have a few things in the wings, but nothing solid yet. I do weekly gigs around Sydney, but they are mostly solo acoustic.

What else is happening next in Jamie Lindsay’s world?

There’s plenty of music coming from me over the next few years, and so on. Being a writer, artist, and producer with my own studio means I can just keep releasing material ‘til “the cows come home.” I do what I love, and I’m truly blessed that I can.
