Why a regular dental checkup is important

Dental health is largely underestimated, especially in the middle-class economy. Well, brushing your teeth regularly and eating from healthy foods such as carrots and sugarcane is okay, but a regular dental checkup should be paramount.

For instance, once, in a while, you may need to visit a dentist for oral prophylaxis, to clean the areas where toothbrush and toothpaste couldn’t. Likewise, you might also need an examination to establish whether everything is alright with regards to the dental formula and state of the gums.

Remember, it is very possible that you may be experiencing a dental problem without your knowledge, or you might treat it as something ordinary. So, why is it so important to have a regular dental checkup? Here are the reasons for that:

Plaque and cavities

Plaques, cavities, and tartar can still find their way into your teeth even with the most elaborate brushing tips. Most toothbrushes are not designed to reach all the corners of your mouth, or still cannot access the edges in between the teeth precisely.

Moreover, you’ll only realize that you are suffering from cavity once your tooth starts aching. A proficient dentist will clean your teeth and get rid of any plaque, refill where necessary and prevent tartar from eating up your tooth.

If you visit regularly and the condition doesn’t change, your dentist may also recommend specific medicinal toothpaste, which should be able to contain the situation.

Gum disease

Gums may become uncomfortable to brush at times, especially if you have sensitive tissues. On that note, it is possible that cavities, plaque, and tartar may build up and lead to gingivitis.

Well, gingivitis is a gum disease that can be detected early and be put on the check, especially when you pay dental clinic regular visits. You don’t have to wait until you start experiencing pain when drinking from either cold or hot drinks.

Under surface X-ray diagnosis

When you look into the mirror after brushing, can you see beyond the teeth surface, deep into the gums?

Would you know if the roots are developing some kind of infection that can affect you big time when it blows up?

Well, regular visits will ensure that you have real-time x-ray imaging and diagnosis. That way, the dentist will be able to spot any abnormality and give a quick and effective solution before it worsens up.

Advice on dental care

There are habits that you may be involved in, which present a great danger to your teeth without your knowledge. For instance, you may be eating sugar-free foods, but they are still sticky, and only a dentist can tell that.

You may also be indulging in drinks that discolor the inner parts of your teeth. It also needs professional intervention for some people to take on things seriously. When the dentist warns you against smoking or using a particular drink, then you’ll obviously adhere to the advice.

Head, Neck, and Lymph Node Checks

Head Necks and Lymph nodes are located just below the jaws, and it may not be possible for you to tell if there is any abnormality over the mirror.

Remember, lymph nodes can even swell at times, but that one doesn’t mean you are suffering from any infection.

Therefore, a dentist can differentiate the kind of swellings and also be able to tell what is wrong from just a glance. In most cases, if there is anything wrong, your dentist will give the right course of action on the spot.

Oral cancer detection

Finally, there is something called oral cancer, which is hard to diagnose or even tell its signs and symptoms on the early stage. Moreover, it needs detailed screening to establish its presence and extent of the damage.

In any case, you suffer oral cancer, and it gets detected at an early stage, the right treatment can be described, and you’ll get better. However, such a diagnosis can only be made under lab conditions and with qualified personnel such as dentists.

Remember, oral cancer, just like any other type of cancer, can be very dangerous and can even lead to death, especially when detected at its advanced stage.

As a responsible being, you should visit a dentist at Markham Stouffville Smile Centre at least twice annually to make sure that everything is okay. In addition to that, you should also keep regular healthy dental practices so that you can minimize the odds of developing gum diseases, plaque, cavity, or even oral cancer.
