When life gets you down, what turns that frown upside down? Hearing your favorite song always helps, but if you’re John Paciga, the never-fail cure to the blues is pancakes. And if you’re John Paciga, you might as well turn that love into your next hit song.
John Paciga has been at it for years: this Yale student already has two albums under his belt, including No Alibi, which he released in 2018. His brand of piano pop calls to mind the greats like Billy Joel or Ben Folds, but it would also be completely at home on Broadway – And with creativity bursting out of him at every turn, we have no doubt he could come up with a hit show, should he choose to do so.
Now, he’s getting ready to follow up No Alibi with Still Got Me. Recorded over seven months with plenty of blood, sweat, and laughs (this stuff is way too catchy for “tears” of any kind!), these ten tracks show Paciga finding his footing and standing his ground. Though he’s still figuring out the ropes of young adulthood, he’s never been so sure of who he is as a musician. When he’s not making his own music, he’s the music director of the Yale Spizzwinks(?), the world’s oldest underclassmen a cappella group – and that love of harmonies shines through on Still Got Me.
In honor of National Pancake Day, John Paciga has shared the first taste of Still Got Me with “Pancakes” and its accompanying lyric video. Some days are bad, and when he needs cheering up, what does he do? Eat some of his dad’s signature pancakes. In Rob Fitzgerald’s lyric video, John celebrates his favorite breakfast food by sitting down at his favorite local diner and digging into a plate full of sweet, fluffy, buttermilk goodness. He sits down at the booth, but that little fork right there? No way is it big enough to eat all these pancakes. Never fear: well-dressed and well-prepared, Paciga pulls a large serving fork out of his blazer and gets to work.
