INTERVIEW: Singer-Songwriter Lexy Panterra

Hi Lexy, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Amazing, thank you! So excited to be chatting with you about my new music.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Want Him Now”?

Totally! So “Want Him Now” is my latest single off of my new EP which I just released, called “A Gemini Valentine.” This is my first project like this in over six years! I have so much music I need to release, so I just placed these records together and put them out. And I’m excited to release more!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

A lot of intimate events inspire my music. I was dating someone that my family and friends definitely did not want me around, and it’s complicated because I loved him. I’m happy though now! I had to let him  go eventually. This pretty young savage doesn’t stay that way forever – my family has to approve of the guy I’m seeing!

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

So the experience was amazing on set. My team is great! I am partnered with a business called Cuckoo Labs, and they support independent artists. They were great as well to work with. Honestly, the video and track are inspired by my ex-boyfriend.

The single comes off your new album Gemini Valentine – what’s the story behind the title?

Well, I am a Gemini! Plus, I wanted to drop something on Valentine’s Day. And I knew this record would push the boundaries and not include your typical love songs. Rather, I wanted to sing about realistic things that happen, instead of a magical scenario that people imagine happening on a perfect Valentine’s Day. That hardly ever happens, and I want my fans to be able to relate to the music I’m putting out and the stories I tell.

How was the recording and writing process?

“Want Him Now” specifically was already written. Usually, I tend to write my own records or I write them with people I work with, but this one was already done, and I really loved it off the bat. It spoke to me and I feel like it was almost meant for me. It was actually kind of crazy for me when I first heard the track, because I had just broken up with a boyfriend who wasn’t liked by my family and friends very much. I felt this song, and it made sense for me.

Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?

I usually work well with people in the music industry, so when we get into a session, it’s very natural. Truth be told, I probably prefer to work alone though. It’s funny though to see how a session goes down, and whether one person kind of takes the lead, or if you all just kind of come together and smash it.

As someone who enjoys and is pretty known for your dancing – how does this influences your approach to music?

It makes me feel more confident and empowered to live my best life and express myself creatively!

What aspect of your own love life did you get to explore on this record?

I write about my personal experiences and channel them into my music. My songs are like diary entries. They are very personal and tell my stories through and through.

Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

I find inspiration in everything around me! My family, friendships, relationships, other artists, fashion, music. I am constantly seeking out new things in life that bring me passion and happiness and speak to me.

Any plans to hit the road?

I want to tour extremely badly! It’s on the top of my bucket list right now and always on my mind. I’m hoping to push and headline my own small tour, or hop on a sick tour with an artist that I love. For now, I will do some shows here and there. I’m truly myself when I’m on stage.

What else is happening next in Lexy Panterra’s world?

I plan on releasing so much more music this year and doing my shows. I think I want to get a little bit more into my clothing line that has to do with my music as well, and really push that. I’m kicking ass this year! No games to be played.
