INTERVIEW: Sherise D’souza

Hey Sherise! Welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi there! Great to be here, thanks for having me! I’m doing doing great, and I’m happy to have had the opportunity to share my music with your readers.

Can you talk to us more about your single ‘Divided’?

Yes, this song is all about mixed feelings, divergent decisions and mind vs. heart struggles. The song ultimately goes on to say that sometimes divergent ideas and opposing beings can live in harmony if they decide to work together. Sometimes, life just calls for letting go with the flow and letting fate decide what’s best for you and the situation.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Yes, I’ve had to make so many decisions on my own. I’m sure everyone goes through conflicts. Many times, I’ve counselled my friends and family through tough situations, and decisions. Conflicts and challenges inspired me to write this song.

Have you released a music video for ‘Divided’?

Yes, I have released a music video which is quite different as it uses Japanese Anime to bring out the edginess of the song.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process was simple. However I collaborated with great musicians and producers to achieve a more polished piece of work. Sometimes, the process is iterative, but the important thing is to improve at each iteration.

What else is happening next in Sherise’s world?

As a performer, I am currently doing a lot of shows accross my city, Mumbai, as well as other parts of India. I plan to bring my performances and my original music to other parts of the world too! As a recording artist, I currently record vocals for advertisements and and documentary films.

What message do you think your music conveys to your fans?

I write music to uplift and to tell the world, “you’re not alone!” At the end of the day, I want my music to be your companion!
