Thanks for having us. We’ve been well. Doing our thing ya know…
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “No Touch”?
‘No Touch’ is a cosmic afro banger with a quirky infectious groove and organic beats and blips.
The song is about respecting boundaries of women in general. It’s a mixture of Yoruba and English.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
We will not pinpoint a particular event but it is an important issue we like to support.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yea its in the making and should drop around end of Feb beginning of March.
How was the recording and writing process?
Fun, smooth and effortless. Started with the beat and synth lines then the song came along.
What role does Hackney play in your music?
Hackney is our home and a creative hub for many years. It’s a melting pot of all humans which is something we like to portray in our music.
Are you guys taking a different approach as you work together instead of doing things individually?
We have laid out a manifesto of how we like to work and what kind of sound we want to create. Between the both of us we cover a lot of skills and we play to our strengths. At the same time, we enjoy pushing those boundaries that we put on ourselves…
Does the new single mean we can expect an album– how’s that coming along?
Yes you can. We have lots of new music lined up and a couple of singles and remixes coming out very soon on Beating Heart Music.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
13/03 a remix we did for ‘Batida’ and then our second single mid April.
Any plans to hit the road?
We are working on our live set at the moment and will take it out in the summer.
What else is happening next in Raz & Afla’s world?
Having fun in our studio sessions with lots of laughs, giggles and love.
