Hi Porteous, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello, I’ve been very well thank you, keeping busy working on loads of songs!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Angelo”?

Angelo is my third single which I am really excited to have released, I’ve spent a lot of time on the production of this one and it’s definitely my favourite of my releases so far!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

When I wrote this song, my girlfriend was dealing with the loss of loved one. It’s always a really tough time that we all have to through in life. You can’t help wishing you could’ve spend more time with them. This is a song for those people we have to let go of in life and it’s a really meaningful song for me in that sense.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Not a full music video but there’s a live video dropping very soon.

How was the recording and writing process?

Writing this song came quite easy for me, the lyrics are very much from my heart and a lot of them came out in one sitting (on the train back from a funeral). When it came to recording and producing this song I had to experiment to get it to sound exactly how I wanted it to! I also had the pleasure of getting to use the Spotify Secret Genius Studios for this release.

What role does London play in your music?

I find living in London is so great as a musician. London really inspires me in my writing and propels me to keep working hard and meet fellow musicians, I also often write lyrics travelling on the underground for some reason so watch out for me tapping away on the Jubilee line.

How has Foals and Radiohead influenced your writing?

Foals and Radiohead both have influence on my style of writing; Foals have always excited me in their guitar part writing and Yannis’ raspy Indie Rock vocal, they definitely played a role in characterising some of my sound as an artist. Radiohead are just undeniably great on so many levels, they could literally release anything and I’d worship it! Their writing incorporates great abstract lyricism with irregular structures but is always so catchy and connectable.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

It does indeed! Watch out for an EP in the near future and a lot more new material ahead. I’ve been writing lots at the moment and I am onto the recording stage, I’ve got loads that I’m excited to share with the world.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

It’s so top secret even I don’t know yet!

Any plans to hit the road?

I’ve got a few gigs coming up but I’d love to hit the road with more of a tour soon, I have an amazing band that I can’t wait to play more shows with. I’m sure a tour will be very much on the cards in the not too distant future so watch out for that!

What else is happening next in PORTEOUS’ world?

As I mentioned, I’m writing and recording lots and also have some shows lined up. I’ve got a load of beaut stuff in the pipes that I’m really looking forward to releasing and some exciting opportunities this year!
