Marina Matiss’ debut single “Phoboslight” already is receiving airplay in 8 nations, including the U.S. and many major cities in Europe. Today the artist shares a preview of the accompanying music video exclusively with the press before its release to the public on Saturday.
“Phoboslight” tells the story of an early Mars settler and her goodbye to the love of her life right on the day of final departure from earth. As Mars travel currently is a one way ticket chances are the lovers never will meet again. The song explores the dilemma of being torn between two life choices, facing an irreversible decision in the hope of achieving greater good.
In her cinematesque composition Matiss simultaneously transmits both the tragic and the empowering, calling for a new generation of explorers and paying her respect to early female aviators like Amelia Earhart who themselves often risked everything just to make it.
Video director Santi Ubeda says: “We wanted to reconnect to the early space enthusiasm from the 1960’s and the feeling that everything is possible and within reach. I think NASAs video footage from that time mixes amazingly well with Marina Matiss’ nostalgia.” The singer comments: “I got the inspiration for the song after watching a presentation by Elon Musk about colonizing Mars and I believe it’s something that will happen in our lifetime.”
