Inexpensive Ways To Make Your College Apartment Feel Like Home

Before students occupy them, most college apartments look and feel bland. It is up to the students who rent them to make them feel comfortable and more like home. These students will probably live in them for a few months or even a few years. Decorating a college apartment is the first step in making it feel like home and below, we look at a few ways to decorate your college apartment without spending all your money on the endeavour.

Plan Everything Beforehand

Before doing anything, it is always important to have a decoration plan. The plan should fit into your budget and within your needs. Start with the colours you want your apartment draped in and go from there. You can find inexpensive curtains and rugs at thrift and flea markets that could work well. The Internet is always a good place to start, especially websites and stores where people sell second-hand items.

Be sure to plan where and how you would like to add items such as ambiance lights, lamps, and study spaces. Once you do this, you will have a much clearer picture of what you need and what you can do without.

In planning your decorations, be sure to take into account how much space you have to decorate. You do not want to end up spending money on decorations that you might not need and never use.

Start Personalizing

Some apartments come with wallpapers that are quite ugly. Removing them, if your landlord allows it, could reveal a clean coat of pain that can form the backdrop of the rest of the apartment. Remove old furniture, if the apartment was furnished, and add a few pieces that help make the apartment uniquely yours. Keep in mind that some of Collegiate’s apartments come furnished, for example, if you take a look at their student accommodation in Liverpool you’ll get a feel for what’s included, so this step might not apply to you.

Although some apartments do not allow adding fixtures, most allow house plants. House plants can help give your college apartment a homely feel and make it much more comfortable.

Because you might be looking to save as much money as possible, why not bring some of your items from home? There are some items and decorations that would help give the apartment a better look and feel, and you might already own them. When leaving home, make a list of all the items you might want in your new apartment and pack them when you are ready to leave.

Start Small

Those who do not have such decorations can add them incrementally. Start with a few items that you absolutely need, like lamps and study desks. Add new fixtures and decorations as you get the money to do so. This ensures that at the end of your stay, you have all the decorations you need, and you never had to strain for finances to decorate your college apartment.

Decorating your college apartment is the best way to make it feel like home. Doing so does not have to be expensive as you can shop for second-hand items, bring your own decorations or even incrementally add decorations as and when you need them.
