INTERVIEW: Will Stockle

Hi Will, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’m am very well thank you. Thanks for having me.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “How’d You Let Me Go”?

Well it’s a Indie-Pop song talking about missing someone you used to be with and trying to have that back. It questions whether the other person feels the same as you do and hoping to try again.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

I wrote this song after looking through photos of someone I used to be with and even though we ended on good terms I was wondering if they ever thought about me. And from that thought, the lyrics came.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I haven’t thought about a video for this song but I have considered it for an upcoming track.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was quite a pain really. I wrote it really quickly on the guitar, one evening. But when it came to producing it I couldn’t make it sound how I wanted. I had it as a guitar focused song but it sounded messy and the accompanying instruments just merged and foggied the track. It wasn’t until I spoke with a lecturer at my college, that I got the idea to replace all the instruments with what you hear now.

What role does Essex play in your music?

I think ultimately my music comes from experiences with people and friends from school. I live in a small town in the countryside so it being quiet definitely helps me concentrate but other than that I don’t feel it plays too big of a part.

How has Alessia Cara and Charlie Puth influenced your writing?

The way Charlie Puth uses his jazz piano knowledge to make his Pop songs really resonates with me. I love his use of chords and basslines, and how he does it all himself. I love Alessia Cara’s lyrical songwriting. Especially within her EP This Summer. I take inspiration from the honest, relatable concepts and I love the vibe she gives in her music.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes. I’ve been working on an EP. It’s a lot of fun to be honest. I’ve grown a lot as an artist and as a musician through making it and I’m very excited to share it with everyone.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

The EP will be called “On Mine” and I’m aiming for it to come out at the end of October.

Any plans to hit the road?

I would love to at some point, maybe next year. I am planning a big gig after my EP is released which is going to be a lot of fun so watch out for that. Any other gigs will be announced on my socials when they are confirmed.

What else is happening next in Will Stockle’s world?

After How’d You Let Me Go comes out I have 2 more singles to be released before finally the On Mine EP is released. I also am hoping to plan a solo keys gig at some point which will be a nice change of pace and then in November the EP celebratory show with, for the first time, a full band. This is the band I intend to carry with me through my touring and gigging career and I am very excited for it. And I am also planning some sort of merchandise but that won’t be revealed until next year.
