INTERVIEW: LA-Based Triple Threat Quinn

Hi Quinn, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hello! I’ve been great! Things are already off to such an amazing start in 2020!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Heavyweight”?

“Heavyweight” is a song about a lot of things, but mainly it’s about empowerment. It means empowering yourself to be more outgoing and strong not only when it comes to potential relationships but also in everyday life as an individual.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

“Heavyweight” was introduced to me by music producer Matt Wilder in Nashville. When I listened to the demo, I knew I had to record it because the song sounded and felt like me and the message I wanted to tell others.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

There was a lot of time and preparation behind the music video and its storyline for the song. The whole entire process was a blast from start to finish! When deciding the location for the video, I knew that it had to take place in a boxing gym. We found this really cool, old fashioned looking boxing gym in Cleveland, Ohio, my hometown, called Old Angle Boxing Gym. We set up each shot with artistic ideas in mind and went for it. I was blessed to work with amazing and dedicated crew members, dancers, and actors. It was a long 16 hour day, but every second on set was worth it!

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording process was so much fun! I didn’t write this song, but through working on it I found my true voice and helped me learn how to create my own sound in my music. Working on this song made me realize what I could do and what message I could say to the world. Working in Nashville, a writing town, has inspired me so much from a composition point of view. Having access to so many other talented people to draw on in a very warm and embracing place is indescribable. People really love and care about their craft. It is a gift to have worked with so many talented musicians with great work ethics and professional attitudes. Really good vibes!

Having co-written the song with so many other people – how did you go on balancing and sharing your creative ideas?

I did not write the lyrics to this song but speaking from previous experience, I always find success with collaborating with other writers. This way you can bounce ideas off of each other and it’s a great way to learn other’s processes and taking notes from their ways to see if it works for you.

What role did Nashville play on this song?

I recorded this song in Nashville which is also where I’ve recorded a lot of my other music. I work with music producer Matt Wilder who I met a showcase. While working with Matt, I have met and worked with some incredibly talented artists ranging from studio players and mixers.

How does your acting influence your music and the other way around?

Acting and music are intertwined for me and always have been. I come from a musical theater background and have an equal love for both. When acting is slower, I have music to focus on and vice versa.

Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes! I’ve been working on a lot of new music and have been super busy writing.

I can’t wait to continue to release new songs.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Definitely in the next two months.

Any plans to hit the road?

I would love to tour one day, but right now I am enjoying the writing and recording process as well as living in LA pursuing my acting career.

What else is happening next in Quinn L’Esperance’s world?

I am so excited about releasing more of my track this year! I’m continuing to work on and release more music this year and growing as an actor in the process too. Expect more music very soon!
