Being a solopreneur in this modern world is very exciting and liberating. Suddenly, everything is within your reach: your clients, your products, your raw materials, even your marketing channels are all online. You don’t even have to hire an advertising and marketing team anymore. In fact, you can take on the different roles required in running a business and become a solopreneur. And yes, that includes being your own digital marketer!

Don’t know where to start? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. In this article, we are going to help you create your own digital marketing strategy and give you helpful tips on how to improve your content marketing and become a solopreneur social media star. Sounds exciting, right? So let’s get started.

How to Create A Solid Digital Marketing Strategy

Strategy. The word sounds so complicated and intimidating, right? In reality, it’s just careful planning in order to reach a certain goal. Just like how you started your business and you’re in search of funds for the initial investment.

Today, however, we’ll be talking about how you can plan out various digital marketing steps in order for you to reach your goals as a solopreneur. Find the steps below.

Who are You Talking to?

The first thing that you need to determine is your target audience. Who are your clients? How old are they? What are their interests? And most importantly, where do you think they usually hang out online?

Identify the Digital Tools You’ll Need

Make a list of the online hangouts of your audience and use it as a reference to identify the digital tools that you need. Following our example, you would need to have your own website, or at the very least, your own blog.

You will also probably need an email marketing tool (a program that can automate your email communications), an editorial calendar to keep track of your content (don’t worry, we are going to provide more tips down below), and a tool that can monitor your online activity (like Google Analytics that can point out which posts are doing great and where your online visitors are coming from).

Finally, there are also tools that can automate your social media posting. It will allow you to schedule your posts, upload it onto a single site that will then distribute it to all your social media sites according to your preferences. These tools will prove helpful later on as you build your social media presence.

List down all the tools you need on a piece of paper. For now, let’s move on to the next step.

Determine Your Goals

You now know who and where your audience is. You also know the tools that you’re going to use. We suggest for you to read on how to maximize each of the tools you’ve listed down a while ago. Again, there are a lot of free references online. Make use of them.

Anyway, the next thing that we are going to do is to determine your business goals. Why are you going to launch a digital marketing campaign? Is it to get your brand more well-known? Do you want to increase the followers of your social media accounts? Do you want more online visits on your website per day?

You see, each goal requires a slightly different focus. For instance, increasing your social media followers would require you to increase the frequency and quality of your posts. It will also get your website more visits, for sure, but the growth of your followers is going to be more apparent.

Obviously, you can juggle multiple goals at a time, but as a beginner, we suggest for you to focus on a single goal for now and treat your first campaign as “on-the-job” training. It can seem that going digital means spend a lot of money, but it is not so actually. There are lots of ways to cover your expenses. Didn’t you consider various business financing and micro-lending options as well?

Put Your Plan into Action

By now, you should have a piece of paper (or a document) that’s brimming with notes, bullet points, links, and more. The only thing that’s left is to enforce them. Create those accounts, start writing your web content, and schedule your social media posts. Speaking of which, that’s what we are going to talk about next!

Tips on Improving Your Content and Social Media Marketing

Here are some tips on how to improve your content marketing and be a solopreneur social media star:

  • Try out different article formats. Don’t just write lists. Create how-tos, faqs, compilations, and more.
  • Know your audience’s schedule and time the posting of your social media posts accordingly.
  • Create an editorial calendar for both your content and social media posts and stick to it. Post regularly and build trust with your audience.
  • Experiment with various content. Written words are not the only way to convey information. You can create infographics, film videos, post photos, and more. Most importantly, find the appropriate social media channel for each of these types of content.
  • Finally, if you can’t write or create graphics to save your life then there’s no harm in hiring a freelancer. Being a solopreneur doesn’t mean that you can’t get help and hire other people.

Hustling Digitally

Marketing has significantly changed its face this past decade and we expect that it’s going to grow and develop more digitally. Today, marketing specialists and solopreneurs need to increase their knowledge and upgrade their skills constantly to keep the business up and running.

Always keep up with various digital trends. Use various tools which make your marketing more measurable, allowing you to adapt your strategy and tactics for the best results and be more competitive.
