All great!… We love winter mode here in Ibiza as our life is so hectic during summer. It’s nice to have a daytime life again and re-charge ourselves a bit!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Life”?
Well it’s a track that we have been playing out in our sets for a while now and we’ve seen it really getting good reactions on the dance floors since we first started playing it. We did a few tweaks with the mix over a few weeks, sent it to Armada Subjekt to see what they thought and luckily they loved it!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Yes it’s really inspired by our early clubbing days when we used to go out till sunrise in Ibiza. The DJs back then always played Balearic music and made it really magical for everyone. You’d see people really hugging, all hands up in the air, shades on with the biggest smiles on all our faces… it was an incredible feeling, very emotional to be a part of something like that in fact! So this is where ‘Life’ comes from.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Not just at the moment.
How was the recording and writing process?
We usually work from our studio above Cafe Mambo in Ibiza, looking out over the sea in front. And for Life it was quite simple – we had been talking about Amnesia, one of the big famous clubs in Ibiza, and one time at sunrise when we heard the DJ play Moby ‘Go’… it was an incredible moment. Great emotion and energy on that track. So from the start we kind of knew the vibe we wanted which always helps.
What role does Ibiza play in your music?
Well thanks to Ibiza and to Cafe Mambo we are a bit like a house music library… we grew up here and got to listen to all the best DJs on a daily basis and loved it! I don’t think you can get much of a bigger influence than something like that!
How has Pete Tong and Jamie Jones influenced your writing? Pete Tong very much so as we were listening to him play at Cafe Mambo for many many years since 1996 when we were just teenagers. His Friday night radio show on BBC Radio 1 in the UK was huge and in the summer months he would present it live from Café Mambo. Since he was also such a huge radio personality, he was the man who broke all of the big records in Ibiza during that period.
Does the new single mean we can expect even more new material – how’s that coming along?
Now in winter we get to fit in much more studio time. We’ve been working on new music that we’re still road testing and playing out but yes, new music coming soon!
Any plans to hit the road?
We’ve just played in Cape Town and we’re back in Dubai again very soon! We’ll also be playing a big show for Defected in London in April which we’re really excited for and we’re also now working on our summer tour schedule and festival dates. We’ve just announced we’ll be returning to Tomorrowland in Belgium which is always one of the highlights of the year.
What else is happening next in Mambo Brothers’ world?
Ha ha just trying to keep it all together but also getting better at working with more people in the studio and getting out of our comfort zone. This year we want to work with more and more vocalists, engineers, song writers, creative and talented people who we can we can vibe with and really learn from. We love the whole process and we’re looking forward to more exciting projects this year. It feels like a pretty exciting time for us right now.
