INTERVIEW: Rozei

Hi Rozei, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hey guys! Thank you for the opportunity. I’ve been great actually. A lot has changed in the past couple of months so I’m feeling extremely excited and grateful.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Ooo La La”?

Ooo La La was one of those occurrences where I heard the melody in my head for days before even laying down any vocals on the track.

Once it came down to recording it all kind of just came together naturally. It was a lot of fun to record and see it all piece together and come to life.

Once it released it just kind of snowballed. First few days out it was sitting around 10k, come the following week it was at 50k, next thing I know its pulling over 100k daily.

Its been really interesting and exciting to watch it grow and to know that the song is resonating with people.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I was listening to some of my tracks from last year and realized that most of what I was writing was more emotional. I was going through a lot of toxic relationship issues. I wanted to make something super upbeat and fun and bring a whole new vibe to the table.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

I definitly plan on it, not 100% on any details quite yet but be on the lookout.

How was the recording and writing process?

The producers and I have actually never been in the same room. Everything about the track was done online. I recorded/mixed/mastered the whole track in my basement at 5 in the morning on 0 sleep.

I knew that I wanted to implement a sound into the hook to make it more catchy. That’s where the Ooo La La was born. I pretty much freestyled the song. I never had any lyrics written until
the whole thing was completed.

What role does Erie play in your music?

If you ask anyone from my city what it’s like to live there they’re going to say its a ghost town. However, truth be told, it is a city full of genuine people and dreamers and that will stick with me forever.

How has Juice WRLD and Lil Skies influenced your writing?

Juice was honestly just insanely inspirational. He was one of the huge reasons I got more into the melodic side of music. I remember hearing his earlier tracks on his self titled EP and being hooked. I gravitated towards Skies “Life of a Dark Rose” just because of the mix of vibes he had on the project.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

I’m working on a few things at the moment. Some dark pop material, some more upbeat stuff. Just having fun with it and trying to make every song better than the last.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Nothing set in stone yet, still focusing on the growth of Ooo La La at the moment.

Any plans to hit the road?

I definitely want to travel. There is nothing more euphoric than performing. Having a sold out stadium full of people who know my songs and sing along has always been my dream.

What else is happening next in Rozei’s world?

I’ve just been working on perfecting my craft and developing my sound. A lot of late nights, early mornings, and traveling. I can’t wait to see what is in store for the future.
