Well, I don’t know what the songwriter was thinking when he penned these lyrics, but there’s definitely something about Christopher the Grey’s latest hit single, “Butterflies”, that makes you press the repeat button again and again. It has a catchy feel to it, which makes it really pleasant on the ear. Listen here
“Butterflies” has an excellent rhythm and beats that encourage you both to move and sit still. I think it’s an excellent track both for chilling at home or something to listen to while you work, as well as a good song to dance to at the party.
The lyrics are fairly easy to learn, which only prompts you to sing along whenever you hear the tune (and hey, even when you don’t, because why not?), and this somehow enhances the feel-good atmosphere you’re in, making “Butterflies” a song to remember.
The single, as well as most of The Grey’s music is reminiscent of the good old days of rap music, when lyrics were more like an anthem set to music, sent out a message, albeit a catchy one. Influenced by immortal artists such as Prince, Rakim and Public Enemy, as well as ‘newer’ voices, like J Cole and Bryce Vines, the Grey has nurtured a passion for music ever since he was a boy.
With parents who both dabbled in the music industry, it was clear to young Christopher that he shall follow in his parents’ footsteps, and so, he started experimenting early on. His early career was cut short, unfortunately, by the tragic demise of his parents, when the Grey was barely in his twenties.
However, like any good artist should, he took in the tragedy, the bad stuff and feelings and years’ worth of experience and channeled it all into his music, so that in the past few years, the Grey has consistently been putting out good music.
And given that it’s barely January and Christopher the Grey is already putting out good tunes, we can take this as a pretty positive sign for 2020.
