Enduro vs Trail Dirt Bikes – Top Pros & Cons Review

When it comes to dirt bikes, there are several varieties available on the market. Choosing the right type of dirt bike is entirely dependent upon your expertise in dirt biking and your ability in handling these bikes. Amongst the various types of dirt bikes, two of the most common are trail and enduro dirt bikes. Although to a layman, all types of bikes in this category would appear or sound similar, there are several differences between these two types of bikes.

One of the primary differences between the two is that enduros are made more for speed built better suspension and more power, along with the purpose of racing. On the other hand, trail dirt bikes are designed more for riding through rocky and rough trails. These bikes come with better strength for climbing higher terrains.

Pros and Cons

Weight

When it comes to weight, the enduros weigh more than the trail dirt bikes since they come with a large sized fuel tank and various other features. However, due to the heavy weight of the enduros, these prove to be less maneuverable. On the other hand, trail bikes are less heavy and thus, more maneuverable than the enduros. Nonetheless, the weight of trail dirt bikes is not that less. There is a weight difference between the two types of dirt bikes of almost 20 pounds. The primary factors that contribute to the increased weight in enduros is the larger fuel tank and a thicker kickstand.

Size

Talking about size, enduros are more powerful and larger in size. This is also the reason why it is difficult to transport the bike from one place to another. On the other hand, trail dirt bikes are simpler to transport, which obviously depends upon the cc. however, these bikes are not as quick or powerful as the enduros. There are several factors that may alter the average size of dirt bikes.

These include the cc of the engine and also the frame that surrounds the engine of the bike. However, it is important for you to note that the frame of enduros will differ from trail bikes since the former is designed for speed and the latter is designed to make it more durable and tougher to help it climb rocks or hills with ease. Normally, enduro dirt bikes come with a 450cc engine, which makes the bike quite powerful. This will also make the frame larger due to the powerful engine.

Speed

Enduros are designed for greater speed and go pretty fast says TheDirtBikeReviews.com. However, trail dirt bikes are not as quick as the enduros. This factor is pretty simple for you to understand. Since enduros are made for racing purposes, they come with greater horsepower. Together with higher torque and a larger fuel tank, these bikes can easily go further and faster than any average trail bike. However, trail bikes do not come with as much horsepower as the enduros and also lag behind in endurance and power in the tires department. Trail bikes are meant for climbing ridges and hills and not for going fast. These bikes come with different cc, which can easily alter the horsepower and affect the general speed.

Power

In the power department, enduros are luckier since they come with greater horsepower. However, this power is only for going at a great speed and not for climbing rough terrains. However, trail bikes come with lesser power which enables inexperienced or young riders to handle them with ease. Trail bikes do come with less torque and cc. As discussed above, enduros come with an engine capacity of around 450cc. this naturally means that these bikes can easily speed up faster and come with greater horsepower. Trail bikes are not popular for their speed and neither their horsepower. The highest engine capacity for a trail bike is 250cc, which makes it more family-friendly as compared to enduro dirt bikes. The trail bikes are also more or less designed in a four-stroke engine, which has less torque and speed.

Acceleration

One of the key factors of an enduro dirt bike is its natural ability of accelerating very fast. However, this may prove to be dangerous for inexperienced riders, as it may have too much “zip.” On the other hand, trail bikes are more suitable for riders who are yet to master the clutch. At the same time, trail bikes cannot accelerate as fast as enduros. Bikes that come with a higher cc engine will obviously accelerate faster as compared to dirt bikes that come with a lower cc engine.

Dirt bikes that come with a 250cc engine will have great kick of power than dirt bikes with a lower cc engine. If you use a dirt bike with a great cc engine, it is important to release the clutch slowly since the power is greater and these bikes also tend to react faster. When you shift to a higher gear by pressing the clutch, it is better to release the clutch slowly and carefully.

Braking

Enduros generally brake well whenever the brakes are applied and the brake pads also tend to last longer. However, it is difficult to brake immediately if going at a great speed. On the other hand, trail dirt bikes are also popular for having good brakes. However, their brake pads may easily get damaged or worn out due to frequent usage along trails. Both the trail and enduro dirt bikes come with good quality braking systems. However, when it comes to enduros, the braking system needs to be of a great quality in order to make the bike stop immediately.

To enable the bike to stop while taking turns or to clear obstacles, enduros need to have working brake pads. Nonetheless, trail dirt bikes also come with good quality braking systems. This helps the bike to come to a stop while climbing a hill after accelerating in order to climb the foot of the hill in the beginning. After every tough ride, it is important to check the brake pads to make sure whether it needs a change or not.
