INTERVIEW: X Factor Finalists Misunderstood

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Jeff: Yo yo! Thank you for having us.

Stephan: We’ve been good thanks, very very busy, but good thank you.

Jeff: Super excited for Christmas.

Stephan: Can’t wait to EAT! Haha.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Ride”?

Jeff: Ride is definitely one of our favourite songs we’ve released so far, it has such a fresh yet current vibe you can literally bump this in your car, party, wedding haha! Shout out to LDN Noise for really taking it there on this one its such a bop. I love how its different to anything we’ve put out so far, yet still us and the response has been amazing!

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

Stephan: When writing this we just wanted to make a song that really was just free and chilled.
The message behind ride is very simple, sometimes in a relationship or in life, you rush through certain moments in time trying to get to the next and then wish you took advantage of that moment more, so with Ride we’re just saying, can we just chill for a minute? take in where we are in life or in that moment, enjoy it and not rush past it to fast.

How was the filming process and experience behind the video?

Jeff: Filming the music video was fast and organic, it wasn’t planned it’s the most spontaneous video we’ve done to date. We just vibed in a photo shoot and played the song, what you’re seeing is 3 takes edited by Stephan! Its amazing what you can do with music videos now adays and we like how its still raw but has that fun, cool edge to it.

How was the recording and writing process?

Jeff: Ride was sooo much fun to create. We were finished in the studio after already writing 2 songs that day and just before jumping in the car, Steph called “shotgun” for the front seat.

Whilst celebrating his win Ahah He just started singing “Can we Rideee for a minute, vibe for a minute.” And we all stopped and was like naaa we need to put that down as an idea.

We ran back into the studio and wrote/recorded the demo within the hour, and ‘RIDE’ was born haha

How did your time on X Factor have influence you guys as musicians?

Stephan: Our time on the show was amazing! It really did open our eyes to what’s really out there, what the public really think of our music and us. We feel we are so blessed to have got that exposure and platform to showcase our original music and for it to be recieved so well, we still get people going on about our performances on the show its amazing! It gave us a new kind of spark, we’ve been independent our whole career, with people telling us this isn’t going to work, that songs no good etc and to just see all of that change and have the nation really like us and vote every week taught us the importance of being patient, know your worth and be persistent.

With the great reception your music has received – does this put any pressure on you guys as you put on a new material or rather the opposite?

Stephan: I feel it does put pressure on you because there’s a sort of expectation of you if you’ve set the bar at a standard, for us we always like to look at things differently. We’ve always been about acting on feeling, at the end of the day its about putting out good music. If we don’t feel that then there really is no point of putting it out there.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Jeff: Yes! It does, we’ve recently started working on our next project. It’s weird because we’re forever writing, however this particular project has us so excited.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Stephan: Lets just say 2020 is going to be a fun year of new music from us!

Any plans to hit the road?

Jeff: Yes! With this new project we most definitely want to hit the road especially in countries and areas we’ve never played before.

Stephan: We’ve spent this year touring and want to do it on a bigger scale next year so watch this space.

What else is happening next in Misunderstood’s world?

Stephan: Well we’ve just announced we’ll be performing at this years Miss World Finals 2019.

Jeff: We are super excited about that and we’re definitely wanting to end the decade with a bang!

Steph: Yes it’s all super exciting so we can’t wait, but keep an eye out on our socials as we have more news to announce…
