Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
We have been good thank you! How about you?
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Just Exist”?
Just Exist was written about feeling depressed but also being creative and inspired by those feelings. It’s an interesting and bittersweet balance that I’m sure most creatives can relate to. But I think it’s so cool to see so many people connecting to it in their own contexts.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
I guess I wasn’t in a great place with my mental health at the time, and I always found that some of my favourite ideas and lyrics have come from me being in a bad place. So I guess that’s where the initial inspiration came from. The riff was the first thing that was written, and I felt like it was perfect to carry the emotional weight of the lyrics.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
We have one! It’s on our Youtube 🙂
How was the recording and writing process?
What was it like to work with Kon Kersting and how did that relationship develop?
We love Kon! We have known him for a while now and he’s just so great to work with such a creative mind to be around and well as a lovely human, some would say he’s an… Angel!
How much did he get to influence the song?
Kon is very freeing in the studio and just let’s you take your ideas where they need to go as much as he is always ready to have influence in any situation. It’s always such a pleasure working with him!
What role does Australia play in your music?
I think Australia will always be home, we’ve done a lot of touring (especially the East Coast) so it will always feel comfortable to us.
How has Veruca Salt and Liz Phair influenced your writing?
To be honest I never really listened to Veruca Salt. I don’t think any of us have ever been into them, but we’ve always been compared to them! I love Liz Phair though. She’s super cool.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
We definitely have new material coming very very soon! We have been working hard and definitely think it’s our favourite work yet! Definitely had the most fun making everything!
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
We have some stuff in the works that we can’t wait to share with you very soon.
How are you preparing for your upcoming run with Silversun Pickups?
We are just so excited to get on the road with them! They are definitely people we look up to as artist so it will be good to actually pick their brain a little and just enjoy our time together!
What are you looking forward to the most?
Besides all of the unreal venues we get to play, I think we’re most excited to drive across America and see so many different places. It’s a dream come true.
