How To Become More Self-Aware

You can’t be successful in life without self-awareness. A strong character can only be showed out only when there is self-awareness at its roots. It lends us the ability to lead a purposeful and ambitious life. Because as it is said, “Life without ambition is a ship without a destination.” Life seems very meaningless without proper self-awareness. When a person is aware of himself, then he can better understand the needs of other people, and by doing so, he will improve himself. The question is how to further improve on it. Meditation:

Meditation is the main thing when it comes to self-awareness because meditation will improve your moment by moment awareness. Meditation usually begins with inhaling and exhaling air from the body. You should also ask yourself during meditation questions like:

  • What am I achieving?

  • What is the thing that is slowing me down?

  • What can I do to change all this?

If you ask yourself these kinds of questions, then surely your mind will open up and allow you to understand yourself better. Because if a person doesn’t know about himself, then what can he know about others. The key is to know yourself before knowing others. 

Noting Down Priorities:

One of the most efficient ways to increase your self-awareness is by noting down the things that you are going to do today and then track your progress. If you have to do a specific task today, then you should follow how much time it takes you to complete that task. Warren Buffet is known to have used this method. He used to note down every investment even before he made it. Warren’s journal entries then helped him predict whether future outcomes were the result of a thoughtful decision or just luck. Another thing you can do is keep a sheet on which you note down all the strengths that you can learn from other people and all of your weaknesses. This sheet will give you a general idea of how much your character is growing over time. 

Psychometric Tests:

Psychometric tests make the way towards greater self-awareness. Some of the most prominent tests are Myers-Briggs and Predictive Index. There are no right or wrong answers in these tests. But these tests help in discovering a person’s traits by analyzing his response to these questions.The best way is to ask people questions with choices in them. Some examples are:

  • Is your success described by analytics or instincts?

  • Are you driven more by action or passion?

These kinds of questions help people discover who they are. When they forced to choose one thing, they will become self-aware of their true nature.

Asking Trusted Friends:

Nobody knows how he Is coming across to other people. All of us have to rely on our friends or mentors’ feedback. Friends can play a significant role in this aspect. Make sure to have friends that don’t hide your bad elements from you, but they inform you on your face. Make sure that he tells you his direct but honest view about you.

Another thing that you can try is to ask your friends to call you out when you are doing a behaviour that you want to change about yourself. An example can be like,” I start abusing in conversations, when I do that, please inform me so that I can let go of this habit. “Having good friends is very beneficial, and they can help you in becoming self-aware.  

Feedback at Work:

While asking your friends and family, you can also use formal mechanisms at your work. If implemented well, it can help you in discovering yourself, which in turn will make you more self-aware. The key to this kind of feedback consists of two things:

  • Having a Process

  • Effective Manager

You should have an effective process as well as a way to manage all of it. The best thing is to talk with outsiders at the office and get their feedback. They will provide the best feedback because they already have so many thoughts and luggage on their heads. 

Does Consciousness Heal Our Soul?

Yes, consciousness can heal our soul. If a person is self-aware, then he will be relaxed in his mind and in his decisions, which will result in the healing of his soul.

In the end, there isn’t anybody who doesn’t want self-awareness. It is the essential thing that lets a person lead effectively. Self-awareness provides us a state where what we say, think, and feel are on the same page. Self-awareness is a life-long effort, but the five things we have mentioned are going to help you move faster along the way.
