Royse sings about the intoxication of love with her latest single ‘Oxygen’

ROYSE is a U.S. singer songwriter based in Los Angeles, CA; known as an indie-pop powerhouse with incredible range, infectious melodies and powerful lyrics urging self-love and acceptance . Royse is an artist who can pull from the deep undercurrents to create songs that hit people in the heart with full force. Her biggest weapon is her ability to explore darkness in order to get to the light. Her aim is to make herself, and her fans, feel as though they do not need to apologise for who they are and to find peace and love within oneself.

While headlining the U.S. High School Nation Tour this Autumn, R oyse spoke to students promoting body positivity. Providing a hopeful message in her music often takes a lot of wading through darkness and sadness. Like Lana Del Rey, Adele, and Lady Gaga, this exploration of darkness is not overt, but is something lyrically and visually represented by her and within her music. One of her most pers onal songs and previous single Heavy Lies the Crown was a catalyst used to share her struggle with an eating disorder when she was younger. The emotionally powerful song is also a tribute to her late aunt, who passed away from complications of anorexia. Her exploration of heavy topics in music results in beautiful melodies meant to empower those who need a hopeful message.

Love is also a huge theme in her music and the new single Oxygen is no exception – a song about when you’re so lost in love that it overtakes you and have no control over it, so feel like you’re going crazy and unable to breathe – i.e. you need oxygen.

As Royse says herself:  “ loving that special person is the oxygen for you. When you are with them they calm you down. They make breathing easier again. Even if it is a toxic relationship, you are so in it that you want to keep experiencing this special kind of relationship. And this is my take on this emotion and feeling.”
