New York-based indie pop singer/songwriter Michael Buono has shared the exuberant video for his latest single “Hero.” The autobiographical song is a joyful ode to his love of creating music that touches on every aspect of the songwriting and recording process. The video was directed by Christopher Turiello and the song, released digitally on November 22, was co-produced by Buono and Oliver Strauss from Mission Studio in Brooklyn and features Buono on keyboards, Kyle Paas on guitar, Sean Mullins on drums, Cameron Johanning and Isaac Piecuch on backing vocals, and Dave Levvy on trumpet. “Hero,” released digitally on November 22nd, is the first single taken from Buono’s forthcoming debut full-length album Lost which will be released in the spring of 2020.
Says Buono: “’Hero’ is an expression of all the aspects of music that make it my favorite thing to do in the world. Writing a song is absolutely cathartic for me, but recording it is pure joy as I get to hone my craft and constantly find new sources of inspiration.”
Michael Buono has drawn inspiration for his music from his experiences living in various cities across the country—he was born and raised in Arlington, VA and went to school in New Jersey at Princeton University where he honed his musical chops and realized he was destined to become a full-time musician. His debut EP Slow It Down was recorded soon after he graduated in 2016. Buono took a detour to San Francisco and landed in New York where he now resides. An East Coaster at heart, the sense of loneliness and disaffection in California fueled the songwriting found on his new album Lost, which was recorded in Brooklyn. Buono considers himself lucky to be able to focus on his craft full time—writing every day and spending as much time in the studio as possible.
Buono will release several new singles prior to the album release and will be performing live in 2020. He currently has a show scheduled at Pianos on February 8.
