PREMIERE: Alt-Pop duo Hooked Like Helen share visuals for ‘Beautiful World’

Alt-Pop duo Hooked Like Helen have returned with a new video for ‘Beautiful World.’ The single was part of their recently released EP, Tragedy Of Physics, co-produced alongside Grammy award-winning mixer, engineer and producer Isha Erskine (Ziggy Marley, Maroon 5, Black Eyed Peas).

The self-directed video was filmed over two days in the woods near Nikki and Jon’s home. Clouds of kaleidoscopic colour burst into the framework in the form of powder paint, transforming the landscape into a multi-coloured dream-world. The duo enlisted the help of their family and six-year-old son while filming, to pelt the paint into the air using PVC pipes and shovels. The mesmerising visuals speak metaphorically of “making the world more beautiful” and accompany the infectious single beautifully.

Nikki and Jon explain: “Since the song is basically a commentary on the unhealthiness of false optimism, we thought it made sense visually to sort of “blind” ourselves with these bright, artificial colors, despite being in a very beautiful natural environment that needs no enhancement. As the video progresses, the powder paint sort of takes on a life of its own, and we wanted to give the sense that we were nearly under attack. It was so cool to enter into this visual realm and create our first music video, and it blew our minds that technology has made it possible for us to do this with a phone!”
