INTERVIEW: James Edgar, Marketing at Hakkasan Group

For some expert tips on how to celebrate a birthday in the ‘entertainment capital of the world,’ we turned to James Edgar, marketing manager for Hakkasan Group, a global hospitality company that operates some of the world’s top daylife and nightlife destinations with a roster of A-list DJs. Las Vegas is a city with many epic pool parties and nightclubs, so to better sort through where and how to commemorate that special occasion, we tapped an expert with a wealth of industry knowledge.

You’re hitting a big birthday milestone. What nightclub(s) would you go to celebrate and why?

I don’t think it gets better than OMNIA Nightclub inside Caesars Palace Las Vegas. Architectural Digest called it “the best club in Las Vegas and one of the most visually stunning in the world.” There’s a lot of options for nightlife destinations in Sin City, but at OMNIA you’ll get a truly immersive experience no matter what room of the megaclub you are celebrating in. The main room speaks for itself – the atmosphere when the kinetic chandelier drops will take your breath away, which also happens to be one of the most Instagrammable spots in Las Vegas.  If you want something a little different, you can head into the Heart of OMNIA and enjoy open format music in a more intimate space, or you can even visit the terrace and take in views of the iconic Las Vegas Strip.

What are the ways a nightclub or dayclub can make the occasion memorable?

What we do here is more than just selling tables and tickets. We create and customize unforgettable experiences for that special celebration that will remain one of the best memories for years to come. Megaclubs in Vegas offer a totally unique experience based on its brand and music identity. Everything from the production elements, to the guest service and music, is all next-level compared to anywhere else in the world. When you put all that under one roof and add 5,000 people who are all there to have fun, you create an unparalleled energy.

For someone who has never been to a club, what advice would you offer on how to book a birthday celebration?

First, you have to decide what kind of experience you’re looking for. If you want to go all in and go VIP with bottle service and exclusive seating, you should talk to a VIP host who will offer options and help tailor the experience to your specifications. If you’re looking for something a bit more in line with your birthday budget, most people purchase general admission tickets and enjoy drinks from the bar. The most important advice I can give is to be spontaneous in Vegas, but also plan ahead. It’s best to figure out what you’re doing before you get to the pool party or nightclub. If you book a table or purchase pre-sale tickets, you’ll receive expedited entry. If you visit the venue without a table reservation, name on a guest list or tickets, you can expect to spend a bit more time in line.

Why is Las Vegas the best place to celebrate a birthday?

There’s something unique about Las Vegas that makes it one of the most vibrant and interesting cities in the world. People come here for all sorts of reasons, but the one common denominator is that everyone is here to have fun! I first came to Vegas on vacation in 2015 with my friends and we’d never seen a party scene like it before and I would like to consider myself an avid traveler and party connoisseur. From the moment you land at the airport to the moment you step foot on the famed Las Vegas Blvd. there’s just an infectious ambiance around the city that makes you let loose and live. Vegas is a destination that should be on everyone’s bucket list, not just once because there is so much to do, but multiple times. Vegas is always a good idea.

What is the one “must do” for having a birthday at a nightclub or dayclub in Vegas?

The ultimate must do in Las Vegas when venturing to a dayclub or nightclub is to party like a VIP. Commerating a special occasion in an elaborate way with a marquee sign illuminated with your name, an over-the-top bottle/table presentation by a posse of models equipped with confetti and sparklers, LED drum line, custom cake and more, is an experience you won’t easily forget. There are so many ways to enjoy Vegas, but being able to splurge a bit and enhance that dayclub or nightclub experience is completely worth it.
