Gracie Convert is a British/French singer, songwriter, and producer. Having had a somewhat nomadic upbringing, growing up in South Africa, London, and France, she describes music as being the main constant in her life. Despite only releasing one single, which gained the attention of BBC Introducing and Spotify’s playlist editors, Gracie has already supported the likes of Jamie Isaac, Jerkcurb, Oscar WorldPeace, Luke Burr, Yakul, Boadi (Colors Berlin), and will be playing at BBC Introducing Live in London the 31st of October.
Following the release of her debut single ‘I’m Fine’ in July, which got picked up by Spotify’s ‘Fresh Finds US’ and ‘Fresh Finds Poptronix’ Playlist Editors, British/French London based artist Gracie Convert returns with her second single ‘Maybe?’.
The song tells a vulnerable tale of a painful breakup, and is relatable beyond a love story gone wrong; with bold lyrics such as ‘Maybe if I had a thinner waist, Maybe if I had a bigger ass, maybe if I just stayed in my place, you wouldn’t have moved on so fast’, Gracie doesn’t hold back. She hints towards the pressures often felt by women to look and act a certain way, in an age where facetune and Instagram filters seem to have become the beauty ‘norm’. Produced by her good friend SHOR , the catchy synth melodies, hypnotic layered guitars and heavy bassline strike a perfect balance of R&B and Pop.
Speaking to the motivation behind Maybe, Gracie Convert shares:
“There is so much pressure on women to look and act a certain way, we’re taught that our value lies within our physical attractiveness and our ability to fit a certain stereotype, be sweet and play along, be fun, but not say too much.”
