INTERVIEW: Promise To Myself

Promise To Myself is a pop punk Alternative band from Phoenix, AZ. Their fun and creative energy can be described as if Fall Out BoyAll Time Low, and Waterparks had a fight to the death in a game of dodgeball, and the winner end up being Big Time Rush.

Their latest video for “Circles” captures all of their aforementioned essence with a very DIY video, reminiscent of late 90s/early 00s videos that sees the band having a blast while performing, but also around a caroussel.

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

We’re doing fantastic thank you for having us.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Circles”?

Circles is the first song that will be released after almost 2 years of writing new material. We are excited to share this with all of you. It is an energetic upbeat alternative pop song that we love.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

No event in particular, Circles is a song about wanting something to work, however sometimes, no matter how badly people want things to work, maybe it just is not meant to be.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Yes, we actually just got done filming our music video for the song, we filmed it at Castles N Coasters and it was super fun to film, we filmed it with a director named Antonio Smith-Plata. We’re very excited to see how people react to it.

How was the recording and writing process?

The recording process was an experience that we learned so much from. We worked with Jeremy Parker here in Phoenix at Premier Studios. Under his guidance we learned so much more about what goes into a song and helped us hone in on our craft. The cool thing was being able to sit and watch him work as he explained to us the way things were, wouldn’t trade that knowledge.

How has Fall Out Boy and All Time Low influenced your writing?

Getting to experience these bands evolution within the genre has really inspired us to pursue new sounds and techniques. Having the chance to witness the larger than life shows continues to inspire us and strive to be like our idols.

What role does Phoenix play in your music?

The music scene in Phoenix is really supportive of each other and gives room for a lot of people to thrive. Getting to explore the scene has provided us with many great opportunities to market with other bands and meet new industry leaders.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

We don’t want to reveal too much but let’s just say, keep your eyes and ears opened at the beginning of next year.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Again we do not want to say too much but just keep your eyes and ears peeled early 2020.

Any plans to hit the road?

We will actually be travelling down to Anaheim to play at NAMM in January. We are always open to travelling around and hope to have some more trips in the near future. We have gone to Texas and Colorado within the last year and hope to go to more exciting places.

What else is happening next in Promise To Myself’s world?

We are trying to become Tik Tok famous, our username is the same as our Instagram promisetomyself_band. Other than that just keeping up the music, writing new songs, playing more shows and most importantly gaining new people in our ever growing music family. Thank you!
