INTERVIEW: Kaapo Gunari

Hi Kaapo, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Never better, enjoying every moment coming my way.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “You Are”?

There are moments in our lives when we are torn between love and pain. This song brings both those feelings into harmony with one another. An understanding, there is no love without pain.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Yes, when I was 22 years old I had the most painful experience of my life. Just when I was beginning to start my own family, a home invasion happened at our home. She was not suppose to be there that day with me, but she was, because she had just quit her job two days before this event. 4 hours after the attack I woke up laying in a puddle of blood on my living room floor. As I gained my sight back and was able to crawl, I saw my fiancé laying on the floor in the other room with 2 shots in her chest. After 4 years of being together, she never left my side no matter what kind of trouble I was in or what kind of dangers were awaiting around every corner. I never got a chance to truly thank her because sadly, until after this event I did not understand true love. It took pain for me to realize love is always around and not be ignored. There is always more than one choice but not being enlightened on the truth behind each one its nearly impossible to make the right one. With this song, as with every other song, I aim to share my experience. Nothing sugar coated, just simply reality, whether its pain and fear as a result of ignorance or peace and love as a result of awareness.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

At the moment there is a video made for another track called “imperceptible truth” which will be the first video released. The next video will be a decision between two tracks one of which is “You Are” and will be released in the middle of 2020.

How was the recording and writing process?

It was smooth, as I pre-record all my tracks at my home studio it only takes 30-60 minutes to get the final track recorded in a studio. Akmeja, singer featuring on this track is extremely talented caught the vibe of the track straight away and within 2 hours from the first word being recorded the track was completed. As for the writing process, it is always a pleasure, self-therapy in a way, connecting with my true self and being able to release whatever feelings may be inside me guides me to knowing myself better. With each word that I write gives me sense of freedom, confidence to be myself. Music makes even pain sound beautiful.

What role does Lithuania play in your music?

As I lived in Lithuania for 3 years after I came back from United States I got offered to record an album there. While recording my album “Imperceptible Truth” I have became very close with Linas Adomaitis, singer/producer, besides communication with him Lithuania itself does not play any role in my music.

Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, always. As I wrote music since I was 12 years old I write a new song if not two every month. Music is a hobby which I will never let go. There are a total of 13 tracks currently available on soundcloud as well as another 15 tracks waiting to be professionally recorded.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Yes, the next one is called “Find Yourself” recorded here in U.K. featuring Jess a local singer with a voice of an angel. It will be released within the next two months.

What aspect of your own life will you get to explore moving on?

Love, unity, these are my core values, I seek nothing more then to strengthen them and to share my experience through music while doing so.

Any plans to hit the road?

Not at the moment.

What else is happening next in Kaapo Gunari’s world?

Every day is an adventure, besides writing music I have a job I love with people who are more than my colleagues, they are my family. At the same time I am engaged and have a beautiful 20 month old baby girl who are coming to join me at our new home next month. Since I changed my perception on life everything I had ever wanted is not only becoming real but exceeding what I dreamt of.
