INTERVIEW: Gedalya

Hi Gedalya, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been great! Been travelling to new places and sharing my music with new faces.

Can you talk to us more about your song “Pulling Strings”?

Sure. Pulling Strings is a spiritual folk song about mankind’s connection to G-d and how He has given us the gift of free will choice to make this world what we want to make it through our actions (nothing too deep!)

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

When you listen to the song you’ll hear the whole story.

Any plans to release a video for this or other track?

I’m working on a short documentary now and I’d love to begin making videos for all my songs, I’m just waiting until I can take some dancing lessons.

Why naming the album after this song in particular?

I felt all the songs had a connection with the message in pulling Strings, and I also really liked the idea the graphics guy had.

How was the recording and writing process?

I came to the studio, sat down at the keys and played the song. Then I sang a scratch vocal. After that my producer Craig Levy did his thing which was really adding all the layers. He also played bass and guitar and some other fills. As far as the writing process, the lyrics developed little by little and it could be I tried out a few musical ideas until it found the right musical  vehicle for the message.

Would you call this a departure from your previous musical work?

At this point I would call it more of finally having the opportunity to begin adding some layers to the piano vocal songs I’ve been recording. I’ll hopefully be able to make a departure as time goes on.

What role does NYC play in your music?

I was born in NYC and I connect with the energy here, it inspires me to be creative and fills me with positivity! I love to perform in NYC and I hope to make it there! Or anywhere!

What aspect of faith and hardship did you get to explore on this record?

Really hard to pinpoint the exact aspect. I feel like I always have places within me that are empty and spirituality lacking. When I write I think I bring to the surface where I am holding at a particular time and hopefully tap into an eternal truth that everyone can relate to in his or her own life.

Where else did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?

For me whenever I achieve being able to be in the moment I find inspiration, wherever I am.

Any plans to hit the road?

I’m hitting the road now and plan to keep hitting it! I’d love to travel around America and perform wherever I can.

What else is happening next in Gedalya’s world?

I’m working on some new songs that go into the idea of being a giver and not a taker. I feel like I have a lot to work on in this area and I’m hoping that I will grow through the writing process and then have the opportunity to share the songs.
