INTERVIEW: Lady Bee

Hi Bee, welcome backto VENTS! How have you been?

Hey y’all, it’s good to be back! I’m really good, thanks. I feel like I’ve never been happier :).

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Mess”?

‘Mess’ is actually my debut on Heldeep Records, but it’s already my third collab with Amy Miyu. She is a Dutch vocalist/rapper and I really like working with her. The first version of ‘Mess’ was actually with the vocals of Kid Cudi’s ‘Day and Night’. People loved it so much that we decided to make it a Lady Bee original, so I added the beautiful vocals of Amy Miyu and I’m very proud of the result.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Well, I was prepping my set for Amsterdam Open Air festival and I wanted to create my own version of Kid Cudi because I already had the a capella. So that is what I did :).

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Well, we don’t have an official music video for ‘Mess’. However, I did a spicy spring roll challenge for the single. I really looove spicy food, so they gave me spicy spring rolls and hot sauce. I think I did a good job though, only the last one was a bit spicy haha. The video will be online soon!

What was it like to work with Amy Miyu and how did that relationship develop?

It is so easy working with her! We hit the studio two times now and the vocals from ‘Mess’ are actually from our last studio session. But sometimes when I need cool vocals, I reach out to her and she just sends a demo with her vocals.

How much did she get to influence the song?

Not that much actually. She delivers the vocals and most of the time she is really satisfied with the outcome :).

How was the recording and writing process?

So good! Amy Miyu and I really vibe on the same level. So we usually get it done pretty fast and easy.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Yeah, for sure! In January we already planned a new release at Sweat it out called ‘Roll it’.

Any plans to hit the road?

First, I’m closing the mainstage at a big indoor festival in Amsterdam in December, which I’m really excited about. And I’m absolutely thrilled about going to Miami for Miami Music Week in March!

What else is happening next in Lady Bee’s world?

Right now my life is just focussed on music. My goal is to eventually only play my own productions during my sets, which means that there is a whole lot of music on the planning :)!
