3 Items You Need in Your Pack to Go Caving

Did you know there are around 17,000 caves in the USA?

If you’re feeling adventurous, you might want to check out one of these caves.

However, if you’re going to do that, you’ll need to invest in some specialist equipment. Otherwise, you might be putting yourself at risk, should you decide to explore a local cave.

Read on, and you’ll discover three of the key items you need to buy for a caving trip. Once you get these items, you’ll be one step closer to actually enjoying some of your local caves.

Let’s begin!

  1. A Helmet

If you want to be safe when exploring a cave, you should definitely invest in a helmet.

Now, you might think that you can just order a helmet online and be done with this task. However, purchasing a helmet from an online retailer generally isn’t a good idea.

This is because you can’t try the helmet on, and you also can’t check it’s durability. Of course, there’s the option of sending the helmet back, and then ordering another one, but this can draw the entire process out.

The better option is to go to a store that sells equipment designed for outdoor activities.

There, you’ll be able to inspect the gear in person, and you’ll also be able to get the help of the staff members. They’re trained experts, and so they can help you find a helmet that’s suitable for your needs.

  1. Appropriate Footwear

If you’re going to explore some of your local caves, you need to have suitable footwear.

In most cases, this means that you should get some sturdy boots that have rubber soles.

Note that you may not be able to find some boots designed specifically for exploring caves. That’s not a problem, though, as ‘hiking boots’ tend to be a good option in most cases.

  1. Headlamp

When exploring a cave, you’re going to be in the dark most of the time. Because of this, you’ll need a headlamp so that you can see what’s going on.

It’s worth noting that you’ll want to get a backup headlight in case your main one fails. You should also think about buying a flashlight, just in case both of your headlights fail.

This ‘lighting’ equipment is really important, and you should be wary of buying such items from unknown companies. Instead, you should buy items from well-known retailers such as Lantern Light Flashlights.

Ready to Go Caving?

If you want to explore some of the caves in your local area, these items should help you get the job done.

It’s worth noting that there are many other things you might want to purchase, aside from the items mentioned above. Such examples include a wetsuit, protective pads, and also a waist belt.

Following this, you might want to expand your shopping list so that it includes some additional items outside of what we’ve covered. In doing so, you can ensure you have a safe, enjoyable experience when you go caving.
