INTERVIEW: JameirKGolden

Hi Jameir, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

I’ve been doing pretty good, thanks for asking.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Mix Match Socks”?

Mix Match Socks is a trap lo-fi song about you expressing the great lengths you would go through for someone you love but at the same time your trying to keep it savage yet sweet.

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

Honestly it was a bunch of different event’s like I have some cool references to a lot of old Vines and shows. But many events inspired the ultimate creation of the song a lot is based on me wishing I could express more of my feelings without showing i’m to vulnerable, I wanted to get the point across that i’m not playing with anyone trying to to play with my world.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

Maybe sometime in the future as of right now I’m unsure about releasing a music video because i’m just trying to work on building more content so I can release more consistently.

How was the recording and writing process?

The writing process for this song was just me sitting in my room vibing to a bunch of lo-fi instrumentals and I just started free styling and having fun but then I couldn’t get this like infectiously melody out of my head and in that moment I was like oh shit I have to record right now! So I recorded it and sent it to my friend and she fell in love with it and I said to myself bet this song is a whole mood I sent it immediately to my producer Hobbsrussle and he sent it back to me that night and from their it was history.

What role does Louisville play in your music?

Part of me want’s to say not much but in a way I wanna say it shaped me into being more accepting of music like a lot of diverse styles of rap isn’t shown here so it kinda inspired me to look further and break away as a Louisville artist, it’s odd their is so many walks of life here.

Yet you don’t hear many different unique sounds get the type of day so I wanted to make something so stand out here and so infectious that they don’t forget the name JameirKGolden so actually I would say the ability to make something infectious comes from Louisville we’re all out here trying stand out and be ourself in Louisville.

As your music keeps getting more popularity – do you feel any pressure as you put out a new single together or rather than the opposite?

Half and half, I do feel some pressure because occasionally I would drop a throw-away track to Soundcloud when I haven’t dropped in a while but now with all the new eyes,  I feel like it’ll be harder since ever work I put out will be taken with the utmost of seriousness so I kinda like to wait until i’ve got something that more professionally done but I’m also not an artist who drops  like 5 times a week and I think my fans kind have an understanding and are more generous with me and support me even when i take a long time to drop and I believe it’s because they know when i come back I’m gonna deliver something that they can keep on repeat until the next song comes out.

I also feel relived to know when I drop a song that it’s gonna “do well” because of the crowd my music brings in but I’m also constantly competing with myself so I give myself time and never rush because I’m always trying to show up the last song that I dropped but my style is so diverse you never know what type of song your gonna get and my fans also known as my 16’s know that so they eagerly await and never get tired of whats to come because I like to keep them guessing.

Does the new single mean we can expect new material – how’s that coming along?

Yes, I’m actually working on an Ep that it set for next year and I’ve been really going through the motions of trying to make this standout and be different because i wanna fill it was so many different emotions and genre elements and as far as singles I’ve been working on a lot more so “lyrical music” which the rapper IDK has been a big inspiration in.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

Nothing is confirmed just yet, but I can say that the track list for my projects right now are completely up to date on Genius but I do have this song called “ChopEmDown!” that is confirmed and will have a release date the moment I rerecord the vocals for it.

Any plans to hit the road?

This is something i’ve really been focusing on, I wanna go over seas really bad and perform, but I think before that i’ll probably go down to South Carolina and meet up with some of bros that do music.

What else is happening next in JameirKGolden’s world?

Currently in the world of JameirKGolden i’ve really taken a step back and reaccessed my inspirations, my mindset and who i surround myself with because I feel all of that is something I need to figure out while I have the time to do so, I’ve been taking it easy and experimenting with a lot of different vibes and sounds. My friend Haley aka RipHaleyEdits has been making sure that I stay focused primarily on developing myself and keeping my composure when things are feeling like their moving way to fast.

I feel i get so caught up in working on music that I never really have the time to appreciate all that I achieved so far as a 19 year old and I guess part of  the reason why is because it’s like everyday you see artist come up but a lot of them aren’t mentally prepared to deal with this type of life style that accompanies fame because it’s a lot to get use to especially when everything you do is being watched.
