Giving the Best Gifts this Year

When we want to celebrate a birthday, graduation, anniversary or other special event with family and friends, the best gifts are those that create memories. Experience gifts are becoming increasingly popular, but gifts that can be kept as a reminder of your love and friendship are also precious. Here are some ideas for giving the best gifts this year:

Canada Music Festivals 2020

From weekend-camping adventures, mega raves and city-wide events, gift tickets to a music festival. The Shambhala Music Festival is an annual electronic music festival held during the first week of August at the Salmo River Ranch, near Nelson, British Columbia. There are many more festivals, but if you are an artist yourself, you might prefer Canadian Music Week (CMW) in Toronto in May, this is one of the largest and single longest-running entertainment and networking events, offering artists a chance to learn and network with pros from all sectors of the industry.

Fine art

For those who appreciate the finer things in life, a sculpture or piece of fine jewellery makes an extra special present that can last a lifetime.  Eternity Rose Canada offers home décor in the form of a natural rose, picked at the peak of blooming perfection and then dipped in 24k gold, silver or platinum that will add warmth to any home. You can also choose jewellery from natural rose petals preserved in colours to suit every occasion.

Concert tickets for up-and-coming indie artists

The Canadian music scene has indie giants like Metric, Broken Social Scene and Mac DeMarco, but for those who love music, there are many up-and-coming indie artists on tour this year, so gifting tickets to their show would make a great gift. Introduce them to anthems with upbeat, dynamic energy from Valley, a Toronto indie band, or try the city’s pop-rock quartet Jane’s Party or Dizzy from Oshawa, Ontario, winner of the Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year 2019.

Movie pass

Gift a movie pass for a day or a year or anytime in between. This is a perfect gift heading into winter as movie season sees the release of the best films on the big screen. Suggest movies that are expected to be nominated for an Oscar, from A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, directed by Marielle Heller; Bombshell directed by Jay Roach; The Farewell, written and directed by Lulu Wang; 1917 written and directed by Sam Mendes and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood written and directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Netflix subscription

If they have not already got a Netflix subscription, gift them the chance to enjoy The Irishman, directed by Martin Scorsese which is being streamed on the channel and is expected to be a nominee for an Oscar in 2020 with a first-class cast that includes Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, the movie is about a mob hitman who recalls his possible involvement with the murder of Jimmy Hoffa. Another Netflix movie up for an Oscar nomination is Marriage Story directed by Noah Baumbach, which follows an unfolding divorce that spans from New York City to Los Angeles.

Comedy store show

For a fun night out, tickets to a comedy night to hear their favourite comedian work their magic on stage that will leave you laughing long after the event. For the big names, you may have to travel if they are on tour but incorporate a night in a good hotel to make it even more special. Depending on your location, you may be able to stay for the after-show party until the early hours.
