AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH 18 YEAR OLD GIFTED PRODUCER MATT BARRI

Matt Barri, hailing from Los Angeles, California, is on the verge of etching out a notably impressive career for himself. At the tender age of 4, Matt embarked on his musical journey, learning the violin and guitar before falling in love with electronic music production. At 13, Matt was already producing completely unique and original compositions. At just 16 years old Matt was awarded “Producer of The Year” at the University of The Pacific Business and Production Camp.

We got a chance to sit down with Matt and pick his brain on some topics ahead of his upcoming release ‘Somebody You knew’ which comes out on December 12th. Here’s what Matt had to say:

How did you start with music?

I started with music when I was 4 years old playing the violin, then moved to guitar and started to produce songs on Garage Band playing all the instruments myself.

When did you fall into electronic music and how did that come about?

I fell in love with EDM when I was around 11 or 12 years old… first being into Daft Punk, and when seeing Deadmau5 play ‘Raise Your Weapon’ at the Grammy’s, I was in awe. It’s really hard to pin-point an exact moment, but that performance is one that I will always remember being influential in my decision to pursue my passion of electronic music.

If you could mimic any artists career, who would it be?

If I could mimic any artists I would say either Seven Lions or Porter Robinson because they really capture an aesthetic that I love. Something that seems more than just another run-of-the-mill EDM song, something overloaded with emotion. I’d love to see what inspires them and how their creative process differs from mine in order to gain a new perspective and apply it to my own music.

What can we expect from Matt Barri?

A lot of emotional bangers and glitchy high-fi, a blend of old electro and progressive house, as well as future bass and melodic dubstep.

Talk about your upcoming release

“Somebody You Knew” is like the sequel to a breakup song. It’s more about reminiscing and reflection than pain and hatred.
