Unclogging a toilet without using a plunger

Though using plungers is the best way to unclog toilets, many find them cumbersome and messy. Using a toilet plunger requires a little practice and one tends to come up close with all the gruesome crap. Many people will avoid using a plunger for that reason.

However, the finicky can rest easy. It is possible to unclog toilets without using a toilet plunger. Here are some easy ways-

  1. Lots of hot water

Hot water can help break up the clogging matter. Only you have to pour a lot of it at once into the toilet. The pressure and the heat can loosen up the clog. You need to repeat until the toilet unclogs. Do not use boiling water as it may crack the toilet bowl.

  1. Soap

You can pour a generous amount of dishwashing soap into the clogged toilet. The soap will help soften the solid matter clogging your toilet. You can also use shampoo if you do not have a dishwashing soap. If used along with hot water, it will be a really effective method to unclog.

  1. Epsom salts work

For the more stubborn clogs, Epsom salts work great. Simply pour a handful or two of Epsom salts and let sit for 30 minutes. The salt will help soften the crap and help ‘things move’. Hot water for flushing will make the unclogging more effective.

  1. Clothes wire hanger

They come in very handy to dislodge and soften the crap clogging your toilet. All you need to do is straighten out your wire hanger and use it in the toilet bowl to loosen crap. The wire is flexible and can take the shape of any contours in the toilet bowl.

  1. Brushes for toilet

You can use your toilet brush as a plunger to dislodge any clogs in your toilet. All you need to do is to hold the handle of your brush firmly and give a few firms pushes inside the toilet bowl. It is gross but needs to be done to avoid overflowing of your toilet.

  1. Bleach and detergent

Bleach and detergents do a great job in breaking and loosening dirt. You can pour a few cups of bleach and a cup of detergent into the clogged toilet bowl. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and flush with hot water.

These chemicals are very effective in breaking down the solid matter clogging your toilet. They work best if you remove most water in your toilet before adding them. Flush with hot water and plunge your toilet brush to easily unclog.

The above methods are helpful to unclog your toilets. But, when used along with a good toilet plunger, unclogging your toilets will be a cinch!
