INTERVIEW: Yajna

Yajna has been topping the charts with her latest release “You are beautiful,” an anthem describing the importance of self-love and consciousness. We met up with her and asked her a few questions about her previous releases, upcoming projects, and the message she wants to send to her fans.

Vent: Who is Yajna?

Yajna: I’m a Swedish artist, singer, songwriter, businesswoman, entrepreneur, and sports enthusiast. I’m a single mother of two kids, my children are my everything and we live in a very small village, a Swedish Ski Resort. I’m a dedicated and passionate musician and I give music my all. I don’t do things halfway, I’m either totally into it, or not at all.

I’m vegan and care about Mother Earth. I’m very careful with nature and I truly care for animals. I’m also a horseback rider and snowboarder. I love the rush of adrenaline, and I recently started to ride dirt bikes as well. I see myself and my work as a source of inspiration for others and I want to help people find their inner strength, and be true to themselves.

I’m a driven woman with many ideas and I love being a musician, music gives my life so much love and joy, it’s like magic! I run my own record label and an entertainment business making music videos, movies, and management in film and music. I see myself as a visionary, always with inventions and new ideas in my head!

V: What first got you into music?

Y: I grew up in a family of musicians. My mother is a composer and she used to play the organ in church. I started singing in the church choir at an early age, and I performed solo for the first time at the age of 7. We always had music playing at home, and as far as I remember, I’ve always been dreaming of being an artist. I wrote my first song when I was 10 and had my younger sister as a backup singer, I still remember the song so well..

V: Can you tell us a bit about your new single “You are beautiful”? What does it represent?

Y: I wrote this song as a tribute to us as humans and to empower the strength we all have in ourselves. Love and respect yourself. The song came to me as a message telling everyone that we are all beautiful inside and outside. No matter what people say, we are all beautiful. There was a time in my life when I didn’t give myself much self-love. I didn’t feel comfortable in my own body, and that’s a terrible feeling which nobody should feel. But now, I truly love and respect myself, I love all of me! And that is true happiness, being true to yourself and give yourself the love and respect you want to give others. I want people to open their eyes and look at the world with love, grace and find the strength to share this with everyone they meet.

V: How is it different from your previous release “Natten Lång”?

Y: “You are beautiful” is filled with empowerment and an uplifting message. When I wrote “Natten Lång” I was heartbroken and sad, so that song is about a broken heart and wanting someone that already left you…

I wrote “You are beautiful” when I had healed and I wanted to share my strength and my power with everyone out there. It’s the first part of my trilogy of the Rising Phoenix, and the message is all about power, love, hope, and self-healing.

V: Where did you find so much strength for creating music full of self-love?

Y: After my divorce, I got really sick and fell into a deep depression. It was a very dark time. What saved me was the love for my children, music, and God. Music started coming to me during the darkest moments in life. Through music and the love for my children, I could see a light in the tunnel and that made me fight my way back to life. By the time I got better and was healing, music was my way to recover and accept myself for who I am: nothing more, nothing less. I remember thinking about people without self-love, I want to be there for all of them to inspire them, and give back all the energy that I got from healing myself.
My strength comes from surviving through such darkness and coming out of it stronger than ever with so much energy and power. I feel that it’s my mission to share this with the world, as a living proof of how much we can accomplish with the right mindset, love and the power of life.

V: Describe your sound.

Y: I call my sound atmospheric, cinematic soul, R&B. I want my music to give the listener inner visuals and take them to new dimensions. My sound is very airy and I feel like I found my own tone, my unique noise as if I’m standing on a mountain when I’m singing! I would say my sound is a mix of Enya goes R&B and Lady Gaga, Madonna.

V: What’s your inspiration?

Y: I get inspiration from my own experiences. I write about things that I’ve been through, about what’s going on in the world and about things that people can relate to. I’m always true to myself when I write my music, thinking, this is me, this is what I want to say in this song, and then I just go with it, all in or nothing at all.

I get inspired when I think about the power of music and the impact it has on people’s lives. I want to make a change and I want to speak for the ones that can’t get their voices heard and I want to stand strong for the ones that aren’t that strong. That keeps me inspired.

V: What’s next for you?

Y: I’m soon releasing part two, “Femenomenal”, and part three, “Rising Phoenix” from the trilogy of the Rising Phoenix. The trilogy will be released as an EP. I’m working on new material that will drop really soon. I’m also working on music videos for my releases. Besides that, I’m working on my merchandise so I can release it soon as well.
Moreover, I’m planning a special gift for all my fans for Christmas, and some surprises, I’m excited to drop it!

Soon I’m going back to Los Angeles to promote my EP, finish my upcoming album, and I have a documentary about my life that I’m gonna be promoting to. It has been sent to more than 100 film festivals worldwide, and it has already been nominated to compete in some of them, that’s so exciting!

I feel so blessed and grateful for everything that’s happening right now, and at the same time. I deserve all of it, from my hard work! Thanks for all the love and support, it means the world to me! See you soon!
