Hi Lyan, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hey, I’ve been good! Been busy with the new release, creating new music and shooting videos, so a lot of my time has been eaten up by music. I can’t complain though!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Dangerous Love”?
Dangerous Love is my second release, and it features singer/songwriter Becky CJ. The record fuses Becky’s vocals with my signature hard and electric sound to create a record that you can both connect with, and make you move.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Actually, the record was written by Becky CJ during her time at University and she sent a demo over to me. I immediately connected with the tone and melody of her vocals and got her into the studio to make it happen!
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yeah, we’ve shot the video and it should be out pretty soon!
How was the recording and writing process?
As I’ve mentioned, the song was done by Becky CJ in her room as a demo, and I really connected with the melodies and lyrics and wanted to give it a fresh new vibe. Once we were working on the record it was all about bouncing ideas to create a sound we were both happy with.
What was it like to work with Becky CJ and how did that relationship develop?
Becky CJ is super cool and fun to work with. She’s a musical person and gives off such a positive energy when you’re around her.
What did she bring to the table?
She’s studied songwriting, so she always comes up with something new and brings a whole different approach.
Do you tend to take a different approach when you are collaborating with someone else rather than working on your own?
A million percent! It’s important to bounce off each other when you’re collaborating. It’s all about sharing vibes, exchanging ideas and pushing each other to try something new. Sometimes when you’re working on your own, you get lost in your bubble, so it’s great to disconnect and explore different avenues.
What role does London play in your music?
London is a place that’s all about exploring new cultures, and growing up in such a diverse place has influenced my sound. As well as being exposed to commercial music on the radio, I’ve always been around the raw underground sounds that come from the streets. In a lot of my releases, you can hear these urban influences.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
You bet! So I’ve got so many records coming out with different artists from around the world. My last release was with an artist from Turkey – Serel and for this release, we wanted to bring it back home to the UK. So I really want to release records with different artists, from different countries and bringing a fresh new sound to my records.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Unfortunately, I can’t give dates. But, 2020 will be a massive year for LYAN.
Any plans to hit the road?
So I’m traveling around working with different artists and shooting videos for collaborations I’ve worked on. From 2020 I’m starting my shows and will be bringing my sound and ideas to the crowd.
What else is happening next in LYAN’s world?
