In advance of her upcoming run of select tour dates in California, Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter ClaudeFontaine presents the new visual for “Pretending He Was You”, a standout from her debut, self-titled album out now on Innovative Leisure. Premiered earlier this morning via FLOOD, “This video is an homage to the live in-studio TV programs that would feature musicians from around the globe in the 1960s and 70s,” says Fontaine. “More often than not, those programs are the only footage I’ve ever seen of some of my most favorite Brazilian and international singers, which I cherish like artifacts. This is my nod to them.”
Claude Fontaine was tracked in two potent sessions with guitarist TonyChin, whose playing with Althea and Donna, KingTubby, Dennis Brown and so many more very arguably defined a significant part of the classic reggae sound, and AirtoMoreira, the Brazilian drummer whose work both solo and in collaboration—with Miles Davis, AstrudGilberto, ChickCorea, AnnettePeacock —make him an actual living legend. They also enlisted a murderer’s row of additional session players— bassist Ronnie McQueen of SteelPulse and ZiggyMarley drummer RockDeadrick, NowAgainRecords guitarist Fabiano Do Nascimento, SergioMendes percussionist Gibi Dos Santos and Flora Purim bassist Andre De Santanna.
Fontaine kicks off a short run of dates in California tonight at the Teragram in Los Angeles. A full list of dates is below, with tickets for all dates on-sale now.
