INTERVIEW: Universal and Elias Music Artist Jacob Mondry

Hi Jacob, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

Hi, VENTS! I’m currently in Marrakech, Morocco on a retreat with my teacher, Candace Silvers. We’re studying the Moroccan culture, as well as learning how to cause more success: in business and in our personal lives. I’m not currently on a camel, although I’m having a great time.

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Standing On The Face Of The Earth”?

My new song is a post-apocalyptic conversation about the Earth. I thought, “What if a child in the future – who had never been to Earth – asked his father about the Earth?”

With the recent natural disasters on our planet, it’s easy to imagine a time when we won’t be able to live on this planet. I wanted to write a song that could inspire us to be more grateful for our Earth, and to be kind to her, while we still can.

Did any event in particular inspired you to write this song?

I was on a singer-songwriter retreat in Mammoth Lakes, CA when the song came to me. We were sitting in a hot spring, looking up at the stars, admiring our beautiful planet. I lead singer-songwriter retreats for artists who want to grow themselves and their careers. The next retreat is going to be in Ojai, CA in January 2020!

Any plans to release a video for the single?

There actually is one! The day after I wrote the song, my friends and I filmed an acoustic video of this song in the woods. You can watch it here!

How was the recording and writing process?

The song came out in about 10 minutes. I couldn’t write it down fast enough. Even the recording session only took about 4 hours, which is record speed for me. I guess the song really wanted to come out!

What was it like to work with Justin Glasco and how did that relationship develop?

Working with Justin was great! Two of my singer-songwriter friends, Lucy Clearwater and Madison Malone, worked with Justin and recommended I reach out to him. He elevated the song to a whole new level. The percussion in the choruses was completely his idea. And the dreamy synth arpeggio in the middle… I mean, come on.

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

Well, wouldn’t you like to know! I recently signed a Sync Licensing deal with Universal and Elias Music, so they’re pitching my music for films, commercials, and TV shows. We’re also recording some new songs for the new year… Stay tuned 😉

What else is happening next in Jacob Mondry’s world?

Okay, get your seat belt on for this one… When I’m not playing music, I practice a Balinese healing modality called Shiva Murti. I learned this modality four years ago in a Balinese hospital and have been healing people in America since.

In January 2020, I’m assisting my teacher Candace Silvers in training a new class of healers in Los Angeles. Then in March 2020, we’ll be traveling to Bali to train healers from around the world and to study with our Balinese teacher in his hospital.

So if you need a healing, let me know!
