Ginseng is being used as a supplement and a food ingredient and have a positive effect on human health. It has been used for years and years as a food supplement in the form of pills, capsules, tea, extract and as an ingredient in foods. It is also used in different drinks and cocktails.  The word ginseng has been originated from the Chinese language word that is divided into two words. The meaning of the first word is “person” and the second word stands for “plant root”. The plant is named after its appearance as its roots split up into two and look like legs of a person.

Food supplements have been used to fulfil necessary nutritional deficiencies. They help body to get essential nutrients that we are not taking in the form of healthy diet. High quality ginseng is considered as one of the most studied and most popular adaptogens. Another thing that can cause effect on the benefits you can get from herb is the method of extraction. Ginseng supplement is helpful in controlling stress, enhancing immune system of body, and improving overall health. It is also anti-inflammatory, and helps to improve mental function, control blood pressure, cure depression and more.

Although ginseng supplement is very helpful in dealing successfully with diseases and improving physical activity, it can also have some side effects if it is not used in moderation. It has been observed to cause insomnia, headaches, stomach upset, and dizziness.  This is why it important when taking ginseng to pause from time to time and to not take it in the evenings. The most preferable time to take ginseng is in the morning before breakfast so it can give you a natural energy and freshness throughout the day.

As it is valid for all food supplements, before taking ginseng supplement it is always recommended to consult your doctor. Use the dose as advised by your doctor, don’t take more than that. After specific period of time a person should take a break before taking this herb again to avoid potential risks and side effects. There are many brands available selling ginseng products and promising about benefits they are not actually delivering.
