PREMIERE: Ben Shaw Releases New Single “Sisters”

Fresh from the studio with Foals and Florence & The Machine producer Brett Shaw, London singer-songwriter Ben Shaw arrives today with the first taste of his debut EP Alive. The powerful new track Sisters is out now and showcases his cinematic soundscapes and dramatic indie-rock melodies. The rest of the EP will be released on 22nd November.

“Sisters is split down the middle in terms of its meaning,” explains Shaw on the new song. “The verses are about being your own worst enemy when it comes to making decisions and people misunderstanding why you do certain things out of anxiety or fear. The chorus is about the way men tend to hide (or attempt to hide) feelings and don’t care for each other. In contrast, women tend to be more open and more available to each other for emotional support. The character in the end realises this and that’s where the song peaks at the end. He finds his “sisters” for support. The song comes from my own personal experiences, trying to figure out what I’m doing and why and the people that eventually helped me.”

Starting 2019 with nothing but a few notes and some bedroom demos, Ben Shaw first sought out a producer to work on the (now EP) track ‘Not The One’ for just two days. But in London’s 123 Studios, it became clear that the project was going to take much longer and contain more than just a single.

Writing and recording across the next 7 months on four different tracks all relating to different areas of life, the collection became known as “Alive”. This debut EP produced by Brett Shaw & self-released by Ben is a strong opening statement from an artist only just getting started.
