Hi Isabella Chavez, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’ve been great! Working on new music and getting to the next step has been my focus lately! Excited to be having this interview. I have so much to say!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Something Good”?
“Something Good” is my debut single! It’s been in the works for about a year now. I’ve written a handful of songs and this was the last one I wrote with the songwriter I was working with. This song is so special and the backstory behind it is what makes it so unique. I feel connected to all my songs but this one is the one I feel most. When I first started writing, some of the lyrics felt out of body, it didn’t feel authentic – like it wasn’t me. I know every artist might feel that way when they first start. I had written so many lyrics, I was stuck! Songwriting is something that you get better at over time. So, with this song, the lyrics just flowed out naturally and I could actually get out what I wanted to express correctly.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
This song is about someone who I hold very close to my heart. I could see that he was interested in other girls. I never knew where I stood with him, I just wanted to make it clear to him that, “Hey! We could actually have something great.” I wanted him to take a chance with me and see what it could turn into. This is me expressing how I felt in that moment. I know a lot of others can relate to this as well. You know that you’re not their only focus, but you still want to see where it goes with the relationship.
Any plans to release a video for the single?
Yes! That’s ideally the next step. I have so many ideas for the video!
How was the recording and writing process?
Well, at first the song was a ballad. I was sitting at my keyboard just singing and playing random chords. Then all the sudden the lyric, “You’re breaking hearts while you’re stealing mine” just flowed out of me. I was like, “WOW! This is the hook!” I was so excited about the new ideas I had. Then, a few days later, I had a session with my songwriter. I showed him the recording of the potential chorus. He loved the vibe and immediately was like, “This is a monster!” From there we transformed it into this upbeat, bouncy pop song. In the studio I really hit it hard with my vocals. I wanted my voice to really stand out with this record. Recording and production was my favorite part. Immediately when I heard the song with all of the production added, it was exactly what I imagined it to sound like. This song is very close to my heart and I enjoyed every second of creating it.
What role does Seattle, WA play in your music?
While I love Seattle, its very rainy and cold most of the year. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, however, sometimes it can be quite inconvenient because I do miss the sun! At times though it really does get the creative juices flowing. On days where its raining and there’s no sun out, that’s when some of the best song ideas flow! You go into this state where you imagine you’re somewhere sunny and the breeze is on your face and the next thing you know – you’ve got some great ideas. I was born in California, but we moved to Seattle when I was little. My ideal place is Los Angeles. It just feels right there. To put it this way – if my music was a substance that I could physically touch, then I am covered in it in California.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
Yes! You can expect some new music! Now that I have released my first single, I don’t want to stop releasing music! I can’t wait to let you guys hear the next song. It has a different vibe than “Something Good.” It has a beautiful melody and the production is just the best.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Sometime in December it will be released. I’m very excited about this one.
Any plans to hit the road?
That is the ultimate plan! I need to release some more music first though, then hitting the road is up next.
What else is happening next in Isabella Chavez world?
New music and hopefully tour soon! I’m constantly discovering my style of music and working on what I want my vision of music to sound like. I have all these new ideas for new music and it’s a really cool thing to be able to express it in the way I get to do. I am very grateful. Keep streaming “Something Good” and stay tuned for new music!
