How to Bet on Sports like a Pro Gambler

Do you dream about turning your love for sports gambling into a career? It might not be as impossible as you think.

There are some people who are under the impression that professional sports gamblers have to hit every single bet they make to be successful. But in reality, you just have to figure out a way to hit about 55% of your bets to earn a living by betting on sports.

That’s not to say that hitting 55% or, heck, even 50% of sports bets is easy. But you can learn how to bet on sports like a pro gambler if you’re willing to work at it.

If nothing else, using even a few of the strategies that the pros use should help you have more fun while you’re gambling on sports. Check out some tips that’ll help you bet more like a pro gambler below.

Stick to Betting on the Sports You Know

It’s not possible for professional sports gamblers to pay attention to every single sport all the time. They can’t keep up with football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, and tennis.

You can’t, either! So rather than trying to place bets on every sport that’s listed on your sportsbook, why not focus on one or maybe two of them?

If you follow a sport like football religiously, bet on that and only that when you place wagers on sports. You might want to even hone in on just the NFL or just college football when you’re betting on football.

This will allow you to focus all your efforts on one sport. You’ll have a much better chance of walking out of a sportsbook a winner at least 55% of the time when you’re only betting on one sport as opposed to five or six of them.

Research Every Single Bet You Make

Do you find that you’re making most of your bets five minutes before a game is set to start?

This is not the way to go about doing things. It means you’re more than likely picking games out of thin air and betting on them without doing your homework.

Your best bet is to start researching a game at least a few days in advance so that you can learn as much as you can about it. You should take a look at:

  • The records for the two teams playing in a game

  • The previous matchups between the two teams

  • The injuries that might impact the teams during a game

  • The projected weather conditions for a game, if the game is being played outdoors

You should also take a look at the daily fantasy sports tools that are out there as part of your research. DFS tools have become invaluable resources for many pro sports gamblers.

There is a very thin line between being a successful pro sports gambler and being a wannabe pro sports gambler. If you want to be a success story, you need to spend significantly more time researching potential bets than watching bets play out.

Look at the Betting Lines Every Day (More Than Once!)

Years ago, sports gamblers had to wait for the morning newspaper to be delivered to see where the betting lines for upcoming games stood. Today, that’s no longer the case.

You can find betting lines for games right online, and you can watch them change in real-time if you want. And they will often change—sometimes, quite a bit—in the days leading up to a game.

Your job is to monitor betting lines to see if you can spot trends. If you see lines trending in one direction or the other, it’s usually a sign that the so-called “sharps”—the pros—are betting on the game and causing the line to change. It might also be a sign that it’s time for you to jump on a line and bet with the sharps.

Avoid Putting Down Too Much Money on a Single Game

To be a pro sports gambler, you need a decent-sized bankroll. But regardless of how big your bankroll might be, it’s important to be disciplined when it comes to using it to place bets.

Let’s say that a pro sports gambler has a $500,000 bankroll for sports betting. They’re not going to throw $100,000 on every bet that they make since that leaves very little room for error.

A few bad beats could cause their bankroll to dry up. They’re better off throwing down bets in the $5,000 to $10,000 range.

The same thing applies to you. Your bankroll might only be $500 or so, but you shouldn’t throw down bets that are worth a large percentage of your bankroll. Most pro gamblers would tell you to stick with bets under $20 if you want to make your money last.

Treat Betting on Sports Like a Job, Not a Hobby

Pro gamblers don’t bet on sports for the adrenaline rush that comes with it. Instead, they do it in an effort to make money, which is why they approach it like an actual job.

They learn how to bet on sports so that they can hit upwards of 55% of their bets and stick to their tried-and-true strategies. They also tinker with these strategies over time until they’ve perfected them enough to turn a consistent profit.

You should attempt to take the same approach. By taking sports gambling more seriously, it should improve your sports betting skills.

Now That You Know How to Bet on Sports Like a Pro, Start Doing It

Winning 55% of your bets when you’re wagering on sports is a tall task. The most experienced pro sports gamblers in the world have a hard time doing it all the time.

But it can be done if you’re willing to work hard at it and ride out the highs and lows of sports gambling. You just need to be patient and make sure you know how to bet on sports like the pros do.
