Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Amazing! Lots going on and just riding the wave.
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “As She Feeds”?
This is our first release since we formed earlier this year. The song is one of our fan favorites, so it seemed like the right one to put out first. It was born of a fusion of two different song bits that when we put them together we were floored, the chorus drop seems to cause a physical reaction.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
The lyrics are a reference to the Hindu goddess Kali and the darker aspects of the mother archetype. The idea that life gives us so much, but also takes away, and ultimately, destroys us. We want our songs to push people’s buttons and force an encounter with deeper parts of themselves.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
We basically assembled a lot of our talented friends and neighbors and shot it in a day with no budget here in Grass Valley. The thing was an actual party we had, though at least one of our guests became convinced that we are an actual cult and fled barefoot.
How was the recording and writing process?
This was one of those songs that just flowed out of us both on the writing and recording end.
What role does California play in your music?
I think being here has allowed us a freedom to be ourselves and find our voice and not second guess the sound we’ve arrived at. We’re very inspired by our community here and by the landscape and lifestyle of the gold country.
How has Deftones and Alice In Chains influenced your writing?
These bands, among others, capture raw emotion, in brutal and crushing ways. That always captures an ear, and a heart. A mirror to what’s inside, you and others. In a practical sense, these are bands that use the vocabulary of metal to tell emotional stories that transcend the genre.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
We have about an album’s worth of material ready to record. There will be a new single or three early next year and 2020 will be a big year for us.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Wait and see!
Any plans to hit the road?
We are hoping to hit more of the west coast early next year, and are playing locally here in the Nevada City area till then. We’d love to tour extensively and have our eyes on South America!
What else is happening next in Follow Me Dark’s world?
When stars collide, our album will drop. But yeah, just getting everything ready for the outside world to see what we in the band have been so excited about all year. We are excited for people to see the range of material we are working with and to take the journey with us. That’s what it’s all about.
