At this point, if you haven’t heard of CBD oil, we might wonder where you have been for the last two years.
CBD oil is now mainstream, and everyone from your favorite health blogger to your doctor is talking about the benefits. Not just the USA, but CBD consumption in countries such as the UK is already on the rise, according to LuxuryLifestyleMag.
If you don’t usually keep up with health trends, you might have some unanswered questions. Like, isn’t CBD made from hemp? Can you get high from CBD oil?
The answers to these questions are yes and no, respectively. How does CBD make you feel, if not high? Keep reading to learn more.
Can You Get High from CBD Oil?
CBD (cannabidiol) is what’s known as a cannabinoid. Cannabinoids are natural compounds that exist in hemp and cannabis plants. But cannabinoids come in hundreds of different types – and only a few get you high.
The cannabinoid that causes the psychoactive effects associated with marijuana (the “high”) is called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Both cannabinoids impact your cannabinoid type1 receptors. However, THC activates them, which causes the high. CBD blocks intoxication. If you take something with THC in it and use CBD, then you might not get the same high because CBD can prevent it. It’s no surprise that until recently, some marijuana growers tried to breed CBD out of their strains.
Today, it’s a whole different story. There are even CBD-rich marijuana strains available to regular and medical users that block the high and may prevent THC-induced psychosis, which impacts a small number of people.
Can you get high from CBD oil? No, you shouldn’t be able to.
The vast majority of CBD products don’t contain THC because it’s possible to isolate CBD from the THC compound. The lack of THC is what makes CBD legal in places where marijuana or cannabis isn’t. The part states regulate isn’t the plant, per se, but the THC itself.
That’s why certain states only allow you to buy CBD from hemp sources and not CBD from cannabis.
What Does CBD Feel Like?
CBD’s best-loved property is its role as a relaxant.
If you have anxiety or struggle with stress, CBD calms you right down. Further research suggests it can also help with depression. However, you might need to toy with the dose to find the right amount for you.
Feeling relaxed when you struggle with crippling anxiety can be a huge relief, but what you won’t feel is high.
Even if you take more than is recommended or buy CBD oil with a very high concentration, you may feel really, really good, but you won’t be high or intoxicated. Taking too much CBD is actually more likely to present adverse side effects, like dizziness and nausea, than the lifted feeling.
Chill Without the High: CBD Isn’t THC
Can you get high from CBD oil? No, and if you try by increasing your dose, you still won’t get high – you might get nauseous.
CBD products block your cannabinoid type 1 receptors from experiencing a high. As a result, CBD can help you wind down without the risk of intoxication. Most CBD products either don’t have THC in them, or if they do, there is a tiny amount (0.3 percent).
