There have only been a handful of releases from mai.la (formerly known as SONDAR) the past few years, but, after a break away the female electronic two-piece are firmly back with the release of their stunning new EP blush. Out through Foreign Family Collective, the five-track collection is filled with the duos immersive prog-pop style that draws on a multitude of influences.
mai.la’s constant innovation and reinvention of their sound sets them apart from the rest and brings a new approach to familiar genres. The EP builds on their southern roots, and explores their adventure thus far as artists; “blush’ is our time capsule. We made each of these tracks at such a specific time of our lives. There is no doubt that in 30 years, we’re going to listen to this EP and be transported to Tennessee roads and cicada songs. We’re going to remember the laughter, and the tears, the stress and the hugs. We’re going to remember 12-hour jam sessions and staying up until the sun rose, sleeping until 3pm, then doing it again.”
It’s certainly been worth the wait and we look forward to seeing mai.la step into their own lane as we move towards 2020! Make sure you take a listen.
