I’ve been busy and loving it! Thank you for asking!
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Some of You”?
For sure. The song is about how I felt about my ex after we broke up a few years ago. I knew we had grown out of our relationship but I was also afraid to let go and be without him because he was my best friend.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Yes! My ex and I actually hung out a few days before I wrote this song and talked about how we had grown since our break up. We were both in a much better place and because we had both moved on, I felt safe diving in and exploring what I was really going through before all that growth happened. It was fresh in my mind in a healthy way where I could process it while being removed from it.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
I had the idea for a lyric video that looked super fake as a metaphor for my inability to accept the reality of our breakup. We had a great team of people working on it that were very collaborative and they really made the experience super comfortable and fun.
How was the recording and writing process?
I wrote the song this summer with Kasper Larsen and Gavin Brown with no specific theme in mind, really. We just started jamming and I improvised some melodies + words over the chords and the rest flowed really naturally between the three of us. When it came to recording the final vocals, we had some ideas for using my voice in place for some of the more electronic-y sounds that felt kind of empty and that was my favourite part of the process!!
Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?
You bet! We just re-released an older song of mine called “Princesses Don’t Cry” along with a lyric video. Music video coming soon! Other than that, we’ll have an EP out in 2020.
Any tentative release date or title in mind?
Not sure about release date for the EP but the PDC music video will be out really soon!
What aspect of relationships will you get to explore moving on?
Any of them that make me cry – which is all of them. Endless sad girl content.
Any plans to hit the road?
I’m actually on a tour of the states right now promoting my new music! Once the EP drops, I’ll be touring again in the new year! I’ve been learning so much which always makes me excited.
What else is happening next in CARYS’ world?
Well, I just joined tiktok and I’m so addicted to it so definitely more tiktok content and lots and lots of songwriting to make sure we get a bop-certified EP out in 2020. Thank you for all of the questions!
