Forest Ray experiments in the analog and psychedelic, combining guitar driven psychedelic rock with elements of raw synth-laced post-punk, americana, garage rock and organ-laden pop. Originally based in San Luis Obispo, CA by Peter Sumic and Robby Porovich as a two person recording project the group has now evolved into a touring lineup currently based in Seattle. The result of this new lineup changes gets reflected in the power level and the energy of their latest track “Dravis.”
About the song, the band comments “The final track on the A side of Forest Ray’s full length LP, Faded Reflection. Dravis, is a melodic, psychedelic rock anthem about solitude and remaining faithful to yourself. The song was recorded live to tape at the Croatian American Church of Anacortes in Anacortes, WA in October of 2017 and features ambitious orchestration with flute, vibraphone and saxophone. Released in October 2019 as a single prior to the release of the Faded Reflection LP.”
The group’s uninhibited performances and analog recording process have bred dark, nostalgic and intimate recordings that can feel as if they’ve come from a different decade with their traditionalist approach of tracking live to tape. Their first record, Musical Witchcraft, was released October 28th, 2016 on 180g vinyl.Their second vinyl record, Laughing was released on August 25th, 2018. They toured the US extensively and played SXSW 2019 in support of their 7” split record with Lasso Spells, out March 9th, 2019 on Nashville’s Cold Lunch Recordings label. Now in 2019, they are releasing a new LP, Faded Reflection along with a collection of tracks recorded in Sumic’s basement to his 8 track, titled the Wedgwood Tapes.
