Holiday Hosting This Year? Make Sure You Do These 5 Things

The holidays will be here before you know it! That means you may be planning a holiday party. Here are five things that you should do to prepare for your holiday hosting this year.

Clean Out Your Refrigerator

During your holiday party, you will probably be using your refrigerator a lot. Before your party, you need to clean it out to make room for all of the food and drinks that you’ll need to host a fabulous feast. Make sure you take this time to also wipe everything down. You will be opening and closing your refrigerator door a lot and don’t want your guests to see a mess inside of your refrigerator. Check the screws on the door handles as well. They can become loose with a lot of opening and closing of the door. Inspect your vents in both your refrigerator and freezer. If any items are blocking them, move these items to another area. This will allow the cold air to effectively cool your refrigerator and freezer. If any lights are burnt out, you need to replace them. You don’t want to have to root around in the dark trying to find something for your guests.

Check The Oven Temperature

Many individuals fail to realize that they need to check their oven’s temperature periodically. This will ensure that everything cooks evenly. To do this, you will need to use an oven thermometer to check the accuracy of the temperature. You will first need to hang a thermometer in the oven, preheat, and them check the reading after about 20 mins. If the displayed temperature is different than what you set your oven to, then you may need to get an oven tune-up.

Get An Exterminator

Pest control is important for the holidays. You don’t want to have guests over only to see an insect running around. Schedule an appointment with an exterminator as soon as possible. Turner Pest Control Company can come out to inspect your property. If there is an issue, they can remedy the situation before your holiday party.

Take Care Of The Toilets

Your toilets will get a lot of use during your holiday party. Because of this, you want to make sure that they can withstand all of this extra use. If your toilet isn’t flushing properly, you may need to replace the flushing mechanism. If your toilet rocks slightly when you sit on it, then you need to tighten the bolts on the base. Remember to keep this room clean and decorated with pleasant seasonal soaps and candles.

Make Sure Your Home Is Safe

You don’t want your guests to get hurt when they are over at your house. Do what you can to make sure that it is safe. Check to make sure that you don’t have any loose tiles, pavers or boards on your deck. Remove rugs that don’t lay flat. If your area is prone to snow around the holidays, put down a deicer before your guests arrive. Make sure you are prepared for an emergency. Check the batteries in your smoke detector and have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Restock your first-aid kit. It should contain plenty of bandages and gauze.

In conclusion, you want to make sure that your holiday party goes as smoothly as possible. It’s imperative that you get your home ready before all of your guests arrive. By taking the time to properly prepare your home, you can ensure that you will host a holiday party that your friends and family members will be talking about for years to come.
