Grand! Busy trying to promote our new EP “All Or Nothing” but also already writing new material! We just can’t get enough…
Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Heart of Fire”?
Heart of Fire was actually the first song written for All Or Nothing. Out of the 6 songs, it’s been around the longest and it’s definitely a favourite of ours. At one point the EP was nearly named Heart of Fire! It really represents us, the words, the attitude and energy of the music, and it is a lot of fun to play live. The song was born from the main riff, that riff you hear at the very start and comes back throughout the song. We jammed on that riff and the song just naturally came together very easily.
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
Not really no, it’s more about the mindset of believing in yourself, being who you want to be and to hell with anyone who tries to change that. The only one that can stop you is yourself. And a reminder that you stand side by side with us and anyone who shares this mindset.
How was the filming process and experience behind the video?
The filming process was easy as it was totally improvised. We wanted to reflect that behind the instruments we are not just band colleagues, we are friends, we are family, we mess with each other, we have a laugh, we fight, we dance, we mess around, we are not afraid to do whatever if we have fun and enjoy it.
The single comes off your new EP All or Nothing – what’s the story behind the title?
The title reflects the philosophy of the band towards our music, with our lives and especially how we behave on the stage: All Or Nothing. Either you put your heart, soul, sweat and everything you have into what you do and what you love, or else what’s the point? We wanted to show the world what they can expect from us on the stage and what we were and and what we had musically at that moment. Everything we had to offer. I speak in the past, because as I said we are already working on new material!
How was the recording and writing process?
We love to work on new music, so overall hugely enjoyable. Of course you have ups and downs, writing block moments, disagreements about parts, but that is what makes the songs better, trying to push to get the best from it, pushing and looking for perfection. Also, the addition of Franco to the writing process gave a fresh sound, new ideas, new things to try. That’s always exciting and challenging (in a great way!).
What role does Ireland play in your music?
Ireland is our home. We come from different countries in the band, but we love home, and home is Ireland. We actually always have loved the idea to write a song about Ireland, probably even about Dublin… so stay tuned to our music to find our real answer to that question.
How has Def Leppard and Iron Maiden influenced your writing?
Many people compare our style with Iron Maiden, obviously they are a huge influence for us. The sound, the structure, the epic guitars, the solos, the fluid and the uniqueness of their sound…it is how we understand music too.
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
From our life experiences, from a positive and a hungry to overcome adversity mentality. Each song is its own thing, comes in a different moment of our lives and we have written songs about everything from the future we face if climate change is not addressed, to a horror book Ian read as a kid through overcoming challenges that life puts in our way.
Any plans to hit the road?
Absolutely. We are dying to play everywhere we can. Right now we are aiming to play in the UK and start to play in some places across Europe too, play in festivals if the occasion is offered… play anywhere and as much as we can, pretty much.
What else is happening next in ELEMENT X’s world?
Although we have just released All Or Nothing (available in all digital platforms for streaming and download and also in some stores across Dublin) you can always expect new music from us. We always keep working on new material, in fact we already have a new single ready to be released very soon. And of course… tour, play as much as we can, from the smallest stage to whatever the world can offer us.
