INTERVIEW: Defining Lines

Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?

MA – HEY! We are all good. We’ve been very busy recently, just excited to get new music out after what seems like an eternity!

Can you talk to us more about your latest single “Fall Apart”?

MA – We recorded the song at Innersound Audio back in early 2019. We’ve got high standards when it comes to our sound and image and think we’ve managed to achieve a high-quality sounding song. Also shooting with Dark North Media enabled us to bring our music video life!

Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?

MA – Fall Apart is written from a cocktail of emotions and past experiences from members of this band. We try to write song which are relatable and real so the listener is able to connect with our songs on an emotional level.

Any plans to release a video for the single?

MA – We Did https://youtu.be/lYoSPX9wh_A check it out!

How was the recording and writing process?

AJ – I began writing Fall Apart around 12-18 months ago. Because it was so long ago, I don’t specifically remember what I was listening to at the time, or what inspired me to pick up my guitar and start creating this song. But I do remember spending more time on this song than I have done for any of our other tracks. Once the song is finished instrumentally Michael and Riki will then start writing the lyrics and melodies.

How has Architects and As I Day Lying influenced your writing?

AJ – Architects are one of my favourite bands and one of my biggest inspirations when writing. I tend to think that our music is comparable to As I lay Dying mostly due to the old school metalcore vibe and riffs.

What role does Yorkshire play in your music?

MT – Yorkshire is a place, Yorkshire is a state of mind.

TA – As well as been the best place in the UK, the underground metal scene is thriving and is continuing to grow. We are growing with it.

RJ – for us Yorkshire offers prestigious venues in a variety of close cities including Leeds, Sheffield and Bradford – having access to so many live music spaces really gives each gig a unique perspective and the opportunity to play a wide variety of stages

Does the new single mean we can expect a new material – how’s that coming along?

MA – We have several new songs written for a second EP. Which we expect to release in Early 2020.

Any tentative release date or title in mind?

MA – We have lots of ideas and themes we want to include. It would be a bit early to say what it is going to be called and when it is going to be released.

What other aspects of relationships will you get to explore on this record?

TA – Love, loss, life, death. We’re dealing with real life stuff. Music is a good way to channel that.

Any plans to hit the road?

MA – We have big plans for 2020. For all show details information can be found on our website or Facebook page.

What else is happening next in Defining Lines’ world?

RJ – We’ve been writing none stop this past year and you can expect new music on the horizon within the foreseeable future.
